Hilltop - is it worth it?

My thoughts on the remap of the 1250. I reckon it would respond better ie bigger gains than the 1200 because of the variable lift cam. By that I mean that the measured figures might be closer to the quoted power output than the 1200 which is about 7 - 10 hp down after a remap. 128 - 130 ish I reckon. Lets put a wager on that. I wonder what the torque will be afterwards :D

Come to think about it. An engine development and a remap to at the least equal the quoted output for the 1200 :blast

Are Hilltop even able to do a remap on this new R1250 ?

How will they map the fueling on low cam, high cam switchover?

Can they even access the map?

I don't think the chipset on the ecu changed and the program is set up I think to keep the AFR reasonable.

I haven't, it was a prediction... ;)

Made me laugh that :D and FWIW I'm bunging down 50p that you're not far off with your figures.

It's not a 're-map' in the conventional sense that we normally use that term. No map is altered or overwritten. On that basis I see no reason why a Hilltop job shouldn't work :nenau

Better still, give Geoff a buzz, I believe Engineer has his number if you want it.

The difference with hilltop is you can try it and if it does not fulfill the expectation (hype), you get your money back. Maybe not win win, certainly no losses.

Well there are losses.

Your time is lost

Your fuel used to get there, have your bike raped on a rolling road, and fuel home is lost

Your rear tyre can be damaged on the rolling road while its strapped down and could be lost

Disgruntled rolling road staff issuing refunds isn't going to happen unless they take their map back off your bike, reinstall your old map and tell you to bugger off.... and hope they do it properly. More time and agro.

All for what??

Definately not that interested.

I've done my time with rolling road guys. Unless I'm strapping a Garrett Turbo onto something, its mostly a waste of time.

Like things in life, you gotta try it, if you don't like it then don't do it again. BTW. the hilltop jobbie is not a remap as in an ECU flash. The only guys I now of who keeps an OEM map for your car is REVO Technik which you can have installed if for whatever reason you will need it.

Rear tyre damaged ???

I'm not surprised you're anti, if you've used shite operators.

I have never had any bike or car damaged by a dyno operator in 30 years.

Ok, so when you ask for a refund, they just leave their work on your bike then?

And you ride off with your money back?

You read any motorcycle tyre manufacturers FAQ about Dyno's... they damage tyres

From Dunlop...Tire Tips
Dynamometer Testing

Never put a tire in use that has been subjected to on-the-motorcycle dynamometer engine testing. This severe use of the tire may result in tread compound degradation and subsequent failure.

From Avon...

Avon Tyres Ltd - riderzone - rider_safety .
Motorcycle tyres which have been subject to use on rolling roads must no longer be used for subsequent, normal service. Use of Avon motorcycle tyres on a rolling road (Dyno) will invalidate the tyre warranty. All tests on rolling roads must be carried out with test tyres, special tyres reserved for maintenance purposes, or tyres which are worn out or downgraded.
