Holdall bags ??

120L eurohike bag at rear, 50L oxford in front, and what ever I could find to stick them on the RT with. RT panniers are not the best for camping gear.

Looks a bit dodgy, but never even felt they were there.

PS it' quite a large tent for one chap on a m/cycle

Looking at that scares me. I would never never ride with luggage like that. It is not normal riding that you need to be concerned about ... but that one time when you need to do a quick maneouvre and the bike will develop a mind of its own.

Well I have to say that I'm really impressed and many thanks for all your replies

but up to now the LOMO are looking good but it will be in Black

Unless you're a fashion conscious colour co-coordinating gimp avoid black, it's impossible to find stuff in them. You want a nice top opener in bright yellow. Whether you choose to have Ortlieb or Lomo on the side is entirely up to you.

It would only be used for the tent and camping equipment, all needed things would be in the top box or on me so wouldn't matter about the colour being black

sorry I really don't like the bright luminous yellow but I do agree that its easier to be seen with them and yes I'm a colour coded gimp and have ocd about it too lol

Limo 40l with rok straps. Nothing to beat that combo for ease of use, safety, reliability and value for money.

This is the best combo, the problem with plastic shopping bags is they are not reliable. The free webbing straps you can often get from a dealers have metal buckles, which easily damage paint.

You get what you pay for.

I have a Hein Gericke 90l roll top bag tent, camp bed, chair, sleeping bag, dust pan & brush all in one good stable load
1'' ratchet straps job done the rest of me parrots & carrots in the panniers.

BMW Bag

Have used this for 10 days in Spain , hotels so no camping gear required , but had enough room for maps mini computer and all bits needed. 55 ltr capacity and fully waterproof.
Never smelt once

Hi,

I find the Oxford Aqua 50L sufficient for up to two weeks hoteling it. No hard luggage. Just a Kriega US5 on the tank. Velcro strap under the rack and a couple of rok straps.

Cheapest thing at the moment as it is free with Bike subscription and 15% off that for Easter. So £41 for Bike and free Aqua bag, or £41 for an Aqua bag and free Bike for a year., whichever way you want to see it.

Does everyone put their tent in a bag as well as the bag it comes in? Is it a good idea to strap it to the top of a pannier?

I can understand why a sleeping bag and mat should be stowed somewhere waterproof.

From my point of view having it all in one bag makes for a stable load the tent strapped on the pannier is putting weight and wind resistance on one side making the bike unstable and it's one more thing to come loose.

I've just bought a waterproof roll top closing bag from Overboard. It's 130L and is massive. Won't use all the capacity but handy to use when fly riding as I'm doing at the end of the month.
Walk on plane in bike gear, holdall in the hold, land, pick bike up and holdall on back seat. Easy.
