Went to dealer with problem with fuel injectors filling up with slimystuff. Didn't and still don't have the cash to let them pontificate over it so, I decided to take a look. Found and removed slimey stuff. No problems there. Also found a few flakes of whatever the tank is coated with. Removed them. They turned out to be rust. Then I found why I have rust flakes in tank. the fuel pump was rubbing against inside of the tank. I know this because the edge of the fuel pump is scored and slightly rusted too.
I now have a hole right below where the fuel pump sits in the tank. I mean a real hole...don't know how it held together. I've no pix until tomorrow night but it is the size of pea.
Can this be fixed?
How did it happen? Well, the fuel guage float wasn't attached to the rocker arm when I took it out, so maybe it jammed the fuel pump against the side??? I've searched on this fine site boys and girls and I havn't found anything like this.
Please advise. Thanks. BTW, I was just going to put in a new filter and see if it cured the slime problem but now I've bigger problems. It's an 850r
