Honda VFR 800 verisons - opinions sort

That's like a brand new bike, glorious. (I wonder if it is a US import...theirs were called 'Intercepters' I believe)

That *is* immaculate! Thanks for sharing it.

My thought for that money then I would certainly be looking for a post 2010 vtec, but probably looking for the VFR800F instead with a little more on top.

I bought a second hand 2005 VTEC with about 15k miles on it. I was amazed at the build quality and I had already had a CBR600 and a VTR1000. I commuted and toured on it, washed it once a week, mostly, and when I sold it it looked as good as when I bought it, ie, like new. I got used to the linked brakes and the power step; having had an LC250 I had no trouble and actually liked the split personality, especially the exhaust note, on standard cans, above the power step. It is a heavy bike though, and the engine is expensive to service, and I’d want a good discount for any age VFR without a full service history.

VFR 750FV for me. Last of the 750s and sublime. Bought one new in 1997 and it was probably the best bike I've ever owned.
Not too sporty riding position and will keep up with almost anything when kept between 6000-9500 RPM.

This was my mates vfr all painted up; bloody wonderfull bike; it was al set up for that race pipe and did it bloody shift; i also rode an RC30 and yes it did handle fantasticly the engine did'nt seem to have the legs of my mates vfr. The only crappy picture i could find;Screenshot_20260614-225110.jpg

the SP1 was glorious.
I got mine after a group of us had drunk enough red wine one night to decide we were going to watch the last round of the WSBK, in Italy, where Colin Edwards (Honda VTR1000SP1) was pretty much level pegging with Troy Baylis on the Ducati. One of our lads was a school mate of the press officer in the Honda team, who managed to blag us into the Honda garage. The racing was out of this world, but what stood out for me was when Edwards and Baylis returned to the garages, they had units behind the garages which they both went into before coming back out to do the podium stuff. They both emerged from their units at the same time, and Edwards looked across at Baylis, and Baylis looked across at Edwards, they’d spent two races giving their everything, swapping the lead numerous times and given their absolute all. And they both smiled and did a thumbs up. The coolest thing I have ever personally witnessed.

Really enjoyed my SP1, an absolute missile.

I bought a VFR800FiY new in September 2000 and loved it, but made the mistake of changing it for a VTEC in 2003. The engine was completely ruined by the VTEC system as it lost the silky smooth midrange power. I kept,it for six months, changed it for an Aprilia Craponord (fast but soggy handling) before buying my old VFR800 back. I wish I’d kept it as by the time I sold it it was nearly six years old with 42k on the clock, so wasn’t worth much. I sold it to a lad in the VFR Club who then wrecked it by riding through winter and never cleaning it :(

I bought a 750 in 1992. Great all rounder that me and SWMBO went on nice days out and weekends away around Wales and I went to the Jerez GP in May '95 before tradeing it in in the August for a Foxeye Fireblade. The Blade was less tiring to ride over long distances (I went to Jerez again on it the following year When Doohan fell off 🫣 and the crowd went wild) and it was far better on fuel too. The VFR's last MOT was in 2021 at 51,000 miles. There's no MOT records for my old Fireblade, so I guess this was written off before the online system went live.
