Horsepower race ?

....Shirley it's more about how you/ your bike applies what it's got than what its got.

I've not ridden the HP2 much since Ive had the 1200 TC but a ride on it the other weekend highlighted how beautiful the fuelling is.

My 1200 has had Geoff do his stuff on it and low gear turns are OK and I've no complaints but the HP2 feels 50% better using 2nd or even 1st in tight turns feels bang on. All that power (it's a MM so that's 117 plus what ever the full Remus GP system gives) is in your control.

When I say in your control what I mean is I feel more in control in low gears than the 1200 TC. It does not mean I'm in control:D

Yes, I completely agree. (that you're not in control .... :D)

Good fuelling and a crisp, light, beautifully responsive throttle is worth it's weight in gold. I'd far rather tweak my bikes with dynos and exhaust systems to get a fantastic fuel pick up, than I would for max power / max speed / acceleration. For me (like you on yer HP2) there is a delight to be had in picking a bike up on the gas mid corner with just the tiniest of input from yer right hand ... :thumb2

Horse power was never the war, only a battle within the dual sport war. You're right that the GS won't win that battle but it's been winning the war for a long time despite numerous design issues and quality problems over the various models.

The GS has the wining formula because it has 30+ years of pedigree behind it. Its a bit like that other Germanic icon - the Golf GTI.

Whilst it may not currently have the power to weight ratio of its some of its counterparts, according to my local dealer it is coming. I am told the current LC engine has been running at 150bhp without hiccup with possibly more to come. Those with a keen eye on the pages of MCN may recall the photo and spread of 2 GS LC's caught testing in Germany last year just after the official launch. One was the standard LC, the other clearly had a totally different cylinder head design to the new model. This was believed to be proof of BMW testing a variable valve system similar to VANOS as fitted to their cars - and is expected to debut first in the GS.

I don't really get the idea of engine modes. Surely, as you get to know the bike you dial into the feel of a throttle and how it delivers power. And then your right hand is your regulator :nenau

Exactly - my 2013 LC doesn't have modes or traction control and it is easy enough to control - I wouldn't any trust software that claimed I could open the throttle to the max when leaned over in the wet anyway!

Exactly - which is why my LC is left permanently in Dynamic mode :D

In the car I switch between Comfort and Sport as the low rev fuelling is very jerky in Sport mode around town, but the throttle response is much better at speed.
