Hotel in Santander

Anyone got a cheapish hotel to recommend local to Santander for one night prior to early (8am) flight back home from Pico's in July. It needs to be suitable to SWMBO and the kids so no dumps allowed! and ideally not too tricky to access the airport.

Recommend the Carlos III in the Sardinero area. Basic, but seriously friendly staff and a great tapas/cocktail bar over the road to take Mrs Vireo for a drink before supper

We've stayed there a couple of times now and as MMC says the tapas bar across the road is an extremely good one!

Nice to find a fellow fan! It's the bloody great wooden planks, absolutely loaded with seafood, steak, and loads of other stuff... Brilliant place.

Thanks for the pointers: for the Carlos III, is there an online booking facility - I cannot find one! Secondly, its sort of on the opposite side of the city for the airport - any of you know what the delays are likely to be early AM getting to there?

We've always booked it by either email or telephone. There's usually someone there who speaks very good English.

I don't think travel to the airport should be too much of a problem. According to my calculations it's approximately seven miles. We can usually make the ferry port from the hotel in less than ten minutes if that's of any help.

Vireo, I will be there in less than two weeks time, have to get a hotel close to airport as well. Have one lined up, will let you know how it measures up as a place to stay. It is 2km from the airport. If your already sorted let me know.

Tried a few places but booked the San Juan (near the a/p) today. Needed two rooms for my gang. Carlos III was booked out (for late July) as were one or two others. Another that had space looked like a dump.....
