Hotels in SF & Las Vegas

Happy days, the wife has agreed to another Harley holiday, this time we will be riding from SF to Las Vegas. We'll be doing the Southwest 1 Motorcycle Tour but Heather wants to stay in SF for a couple of days at the start and Las Vegas at the end.

We'll be doing the typical touristy things in SF: Rodeo Drive, Hollywood, Universal Studios, Venice Beech etc.

We are not interested in gambling but we do want to do a few shows etc. in Vegas

We are quite taken with the Hard Rock Hotel in Vegas but we're lost on where to stay in SF, any recommendations?

Amanda and I did a similar thing just over a year ago - can give you the details of a proper 'Tales of the City' gay run B&B we stayed at if you want the full on SF experiance - joking asid it was a lovely place to stay and we'll be staying there again when we next go to SF

For Vegas, you may as well go 'full on Vegas', we did and had a posh suite in the Belagio - it was a hoot and well worth the money

If you mean San Francisco rather than Los Angeles, then I have stayed at the Sir Francis Drake and the Monaco in down town SF. The Sir Francis Drake is a bit gimmicky from the outside (the bell boys are dressed as Beefeaters) but inside are quite nice and modern and it is a great location. The Monaco is a bit nicer, with an onsite Spa and a good bar/restaurant, but a little further from Time Square etc. There is a great diner (The Pinecrest) a couple of blocks from The Monaco, which was a great way to start the day.

Whale watching in Monterey Bay is worth a stop, Carmel, Santa Barbara the list could be huge.

as for Vegas............how about Hooters hotel

If you're flying with BA you can book hotels for a very good rate via the "Manage my Booking" section on their website.

I've booked the Radisson LAX for the night we arrive in Los Angeles and the Whitcomb Hotel in San Francisco for our overnight there towards the end of our tour - both were about £15-20 cheaper than booking.com or Expedia etc.

Ok then stay in the Venetian - largest rooms of all the Vegas hotels and very nice they are too. Mid-week rates can be surprisingly cheap....

I can recommend The Four Seasons in Vegas.
The standard rooms are quite stunning even compared to the American norm.
I went last year & paid £90 per night.
Simply as nice a hotel as I've stayed in.

Just back from a week in Vegas, stayed at New York New York whick has just about everything you need, we went for a wander around Wynn & Encore, they are stunning hotels.

Which company and tour did you use? I need to book flights for Trudi and me when we're there in eight weeks time Did you go for a 30 minute or longer trip?

Just looked at the tour Mutley and the 1st day will be great. The route over the mountains down to Lake Elsinore is really good. One of my best buddies lives in Murietta and you are sure to go through there on your way to Palm Springs. I've spent quite a bit of time down there and there are some decent roads in the area

Hope you aren't too dissapointed with LA as it's big, busy and not very attractive but have an open mind and you'll enjoy it.

You will really enjoy Monument and the run from Mexican Hat around to Bryce and Zion. I took Bilco's 2010 tour around that route and it's just superb. the Devils Backbone as your tour calls it is a great road that runs along a ridge. There is a lot of overbanding on it so just be a little careful. There is a great restaurant in Mexican Hat called the swinging steak and the steak is excellent so make sure you go there. It's only a one horse town so you won't have much choice

Bryce is absolutely stunning as is Zion but remember you are in Mormon country so mind your P's and Q's!

I think Heather is going to want the best LV can offer so the Bellagio or the Venetian are the way to go. Really classy and right in the middle of the strip.

We used a company called Sundance helicopters, our trip was about 2 hours long including a lunch stop in Grand Canyon.
