Going over to the south of France to look at a extension that a good mate needs done for his mum. Would it be better getting the ferry from Newcastle or Edinburgh or just boot it down to the tunnel, bearing in mind that I stay just north o Dundee. Either way bra to get out on the gs. :thumb2

Ride the bike down.... I bloody hate the ferrys...sooooo boring!

Most bods who live in the barren north seem to take a ferry from Newcastle.

It seems to make sense to me.

The borders to the Kent coast is the thick end of day, followed by a hotel on the coast, I guess. An overnight ferry looks sensible.

If I was going to just look at a job, I would fly down. I would only go on my bike / drive my car if I could combine it with a sensible holiday. Not least, it is way quicker and cheaper to fly.

You appear to live in St Albans, Hertfordshire. You very nearly get wet feet when the Channel tide comes in. Hardly comparable with Jockland, is it? The ride down to the M25 / M2 must be murder.

My memories of Snalbuns was 10 seater Nissan Stanza's and Urdu Urvans the carried more than a bendy bus clogging up the highways and byways
Best avoided get the Newcastle ferry:thumb2

It's a living hell....

I believe the Rosyth ferry is now only operating freight passage, stopped taking 'passengers' Nov. 2010.

I'd get a map out... get onto bookings.com.... book a hotel in France then make your way to the Dover Ferry... got to be cheaper and quicker ;)

Dover in general is a dump..... having stayed the other side of the channel last year, we won't be doing an overnight in Dover again :)

What I was ment to tell you that the wifie that wants the job looked at is paying for ahthing. Doon n back hame, bra.:) it's awa at the fut o France and on the nav it's 605 miles fae Calais to the job. Mmmmmm ?

So, you know where you are going and that the woman is paying, and the return distance.

But are undecided whether to catch a ferry from Newcastle or ride all the way to Dover?

Is that it in a nutshell?

If so, spend a few minutes to decide whether YOU want to ride the roads between GeordieLand and Dover and back. If YOU do, do it. If YOU do not, Newcastle is your target. If you really cannot decide, toss a coin or go out one way and come back the other.

Dougal,ye have tae mind, doons fur up ,n ,ups fur doon. Then ye canna gae wrang:thumb2

It's 500-odd miles to the Channel ports from Dundee, and they are harldy exciting miles either. From Leeds south it is all monotonous busy motorway. In your shoes, I'd do anything to avoid that slog, especially with 600+ miles to do in France to follow.
