Got this from a friend today, maybe some legal eagle will confirm if it's correct.

To late for me I paid:blast

“You won’t get a bill because the charge is a Statute. People need to understand this: A Statute is a “legislated rule of society given the force of law by the consent of the governed.”(Black’s Law Dictionary 4th edition). Who are those it governs? Us, the public.
This household charge is a Statute, otherwise known as an Act of Government and only carries the force of law upon you if you consent to it which means that you are legally obliged to pay if you consent or in other words go on to householdcharge.ie and register. Your silence and inaction will also give the appearance of no consent. If you do not consent, a Statute cannot affect you in any way whatsoever.
The courts know this and the last thing they will do is tell you. In fact they will hide this from you at every opportunity they can. On the other hand, if you tell them, they will accept it because they know it is actually true. According to the above definitions a statutory instrument is a contract. If you register for this “charge” you are consenting to this statute ie: signing the contract. This is why the Government are ASKING the people to register and not just billing them instead.”

I was at one of the meetings being held around the country about this charge and that was said as well
Dont know the legal side but the opinion seemed to be they cannot send u a bill unless u sign up for it
It seems a lot of people are not going to register

Call me stupit but I payed mine I don't like it but it has to be payed JJH

Only in Ireland - socialists & left wingers campaigning against a property tax:confused:

i was at one of the meetings about this in longford, i went to the looney left meeting not the shinner meeting that was on the same night in the same town for the same reason.

a member of the IFA stood up and said the fact that the looney left and shinners are running this campaign will be used against it.to quote his words
"i am not a socialist and never will be,but i support this campaign as a non leftist person"

he made the point that a lot of people including myself could be put off by the left slant and not want to be seen at meetings or whatever because of it

i do think that once is enough to pay for your own family home and as was said they cannot jail the whole country

i am exempt as still have mortage relief for next few years, but not going register. but sigining it your giving consent for the charge and any further charges related to it

sign today and we will screw you tomorrow

i have no issue with hous ehold tax if the money was going into the local area to make improvements. buts all it is going to is banks. local councils are having funds cut this year so how can you pay more and get less.

another way to say look we need money what can we tax now and make it sound like its for the good of the people.

You are exempt but have no issue with it if it is going direct to the local authority.

You can pay the Household Charge by cash at your local Council Office but only before March 31st.
Are you telling me they will hand it to the banks.

This was debated on politics.ie recently and the general opinion was the statement in the OP is a hoax.

heard debate other day on radio about it and the answer the politican gave was(cant remember his name) that if dont pay i will drag you to the court house and get more out of you.

to me there is lot scare tactics going on and that they think that most people are not intelligent and will go along with what they say and threaten them with

then why is there a cut to the local county counil funding this year as per announcement today on news?

The government will cut central funding to local authorities to "compensate" for this new tax that the local authorities will benifit from.

The government will cut central funding to local authorities to "compensate" for this new tax that the local authorities will benifit from.

so the gov takes money out of the local area budget for OTHER reasons and public has to step up to fund the balance so local council can have budget?

as i said i am going by my limited knowledge, dotn know enough about it to argue one side or the other. bit i do know is we getting screwed to fix problems caused buy past government and banks.

i may be wrong i may be right but either way we pay for it. rich get rich poor get poor. tax an gets enough out of me in fuel tax and out of my wages so i dotn feel like paying more or signing up to something just coz we fucked.

dont get me started on th septic tank fee :D

wheres me bike time go ride:JB

County council budget cut by 9 present
Tax to pay bond holders
Household tax going to central fund not local council

So.............in relation to your home, what taxes do you pay in Eire?

Either nationally or locally?

Oh..............what's the personal tax rate on employment too?

If you are entitled to Mortgage Interest Supplement on the liability date (1 January each year) you can claim a waiver of the Household Charge.

Mortgage Interest Supplement provides short-term support to help you pay your mortgage interest repayments. Your interest is assessed as your gross monthly interest less mortgage interest relief and any mortgage allowance or mortgage subsidy payable towards the interest part of your mortgage by the local authority.

YOu don't qualify for Mortgage Interest Supplement if "You or your spouse/civil partner/cohabitant works more than 30 hours a week"

The above just to clear it in my head. Don't know how that applies to you John.
