I've upgraded from a garmin nuvi 250 to a nuvi 40.
I've got loads of useful locations stored on the 250 - when I try to transfer these onto my computer I get told that the files aren't recognised (.gpx?)

In really easy language how do I transfer my favourite locations from my old nuvi to me new nuvi?

Help gratefully received and thanked for :D

Can you open mapsource, connect your old nuvi and select copy from device, then conncet your new nuvi and select copy to device?

If the old Nuvi is anything like the Zumo 220 (which is apparently a Nuvi in disguise) then you should find a file on the GPS called 'current.gpx' in the Garmin folder. There may also be one called 'temp.gpx'. I think it is the 'current.gpx' file that holds your favourites - you can always r-click on the file name in Windows Explorer, 'Open With' then select 'Mapsource' from the list of programs to see what's inside. Copy it somewhere on your computer, connect the new Nuvi and copy the file into the same location on the new Nuvi.

This assumes the new Nuvi has a similar file structure to the old one.....

Thanks.
Problem is I can see the files in the nuvi folder but the gpx files won't open as I just get 'windows cannot open this file'

Any clues as to how I can get the gpx files to open?

Basically what I'm asking is what do I need to have on my computer to open any gpx files as I don't appear to have what I need?

Favourites transferred to new nuvi :thumb2

GPX still won't open on computer but key task achieved so all is well :D
