How do you know if a used bike was ex-demo these days?

Just a thought, but due to GDPR now, how could you tell if your GS was first registered to BMW and not a private punter these days?
I have the history of my bike (I think).. but if they lied to me, how would I know??

all the BMW UK ones i've seen (and ive got one) are registered on 'RX' plates - i.e. the first two characters are RX.

I suppose others are too of course, but its a start?

(the cars are usually YH - ive owned a few ex-BMW HQ cars too)

Put it in writing and ask the dealer, they really dont want to lie about that, also you can of course ask DVLA for previous keepers details, they used to charge £35 iirc but under gdpr it should be free.

I’ve had a few ex demo cars, they had completely different registrations, one was ex HQ, and began with YB, ex demo bike I think began with HD

Dealers register their own demos on local plates
As above. There is a difference between an ex BMW Head Office/press car etc and a dealers own demo and service bikes which are registered on local plates.

When I bought my old f800GSA I asked was it a demo bike. I was told no. It was in the next issue of a motorcycle magazine. I didn’t bother complaining but I showed the salesman. Same reg and all. JJH

Can you now??.. I'd say they cant give you that info anymore?
So you just dont know
I've had a few cars also, but it's a bit different with a car, you usually go out with the dealer. Where as a bike, you take it out and thrash the arse off the thing

If, you are present keeper, yes you can. If you're not no.

But you can check V5C from seller and see the number of/the last keeper and how long they owned it.

Mine is an ex-demo bike and the dealer was quite open about it.

If you are happy with the price you pay, the condition of the bike and the way it performs, does it really matter? If you want to avoid all or any worries that’ll keep you fretting and up at night, pay some more and buy a new one.

The beaver is correct.
It used to be form V888 to find previous keepers but no longer allowed from the DVLA.

What.. how does a question on checking history of a vehicle, turn into sleepless nights and paying more for it?
What if it were a r100gs let's say.. same applies. Can you still check its history?

Thought it might be.. so you can no longer check good or bad!. I once had a 924gt that was owned by DLT... not sure if that added or reduced its value 🤣

Yes it was.. number 54... I wish I had it now.. 75k at least.. at the time I was glad to get rid....

The company I worked for at the time did a ripoff fibreglass body kit to convert std 924's to the Carrera GT look - sold a total of 1...

😯 you actually “ go out “ with the dealer, do you go “ all the way “ on the first date 🤭
