How do you pay your tolls

I will repeat ad libitum. If you are having issues with the French not being able to set up the SEPA: Wise.

I've tried using my wife's Nationwide bank account but an having the same issue 'Your bank does not accept SEPA payments' so I suspect this is correct....
From experience Building Society account IBANs don’t work, be it Santander or Nationwide.
I opened a Lloyds online account and had the blipper within the week.

Sorry to be daft but might I ask for clarification please.
In my case it's not the French who are causing the issue but the Spanish/Brits.

You are not! :)

I had a similar issue. I had HSBC, the French (in my case Ulys, and another company before them) were trying to get money from my account in the form of a SEPA payments.

I ended up having a bit of an argument with the French side as they were sort of litigious despite me paying deposits via card while I was trying to sort the situation (but I digress). They kept saying my bank was "refusing" the SEPA payment requests.
I spent an hour with HSBC on the phone and they assured me they never saw any payment request from abroad or recurring payments setup.

Then I remembered I had a Wise account.
It's a payment processor, you can have a balance with them (in many, many currencies) and I have a balance with them in Euros as I use it to send money to Italy (fines and other shit) as it's way cheaper than HSBC.
The Euro balances are "kept" in European banks. Mine is in Belgium.

Your balance/account* has an IBAN. I provided that to Ulys, they got the money straight away, everyone is happy.
I've been using this setup for a number of years now. And I also started using Wise for quite a few other things. They are good.

Too long, didn't read:

1. Open a Wise account
2. Create an Euro balance
3. Put some Euros
4. Set up SEPA on your new Wise account*

DONE

Every time you get the invoice, remember to transfer some money in your Wise account. You normally have ample time.
Wise is free. They only take fairly small commissions when you move money over. Way smaller than what your bank would.

*it's not a bank account. But it has protection.

I’ll tell you how I pay... 8 f’kin months later.

What an utter pain in the arse. 30 emails later, you can read the what happened here on the day:

Ascendi admitted it was their fault early on. They told me it was €2.20, but the payment method given by them was impossible in the U.K. I managed to extract a IBAN number from them and paid the amount and confirmed payment made.

Months later and out of the blue I received a ‘charge notification certificate’ sent to home from a UK debt collection company called ‘EPC’. I assembled all emails, copied pasted in chronological order including Ascendi’s admission of fault and guess what! “Nope you owe us €97”.

“I’ll see you in court then”, was a summary of my response.

Finally a call and an email from EPC stating they have dropped the claim.

All part of the game....I guess.

Okie dokie.
I've just had a 48 minute call with a lovely lassie at Santander who was very helpful and thorough. She ended up speaking with Santander's International Banking Team who advised her they do not offer international subscription services such as this. She was very apologetic but at least I have a definitive answer now.
Someone else mentioned it but I joined Revolut a while back as a secondary bank and I am now finding its useability with anything overseas incredibly simple. Fully online banking that is regulated in the UK.

Thanks for the suggestions Comrades.
Didn't some bods on here have issues with their Revolut Top Up cards or have I made that up?

Revolut closed some bank accounts recently. It was kinda "common" (heard a lot of people complaining online).
I don't think it's Revolut's fault as those are checks they have to do for banking regulation, and it's safe to assume that a lot of the people I've seen complaining online might have been involved in crypto transactions or some less than clear payments here and there online

Not sure what you mean, but when you have Revolut you just set up a new currency account in the currency you want (offers most currencies) buy the currency (can do market orders or spot trades) and then just create a card (virtual) for that account. The account has all the normal account detail requirements for any transfers in and out. You can also pay for more benefits and additional physical cards if you choose. I just use it on my phone.

Yes, you had to confirm details recently. Lots of internationally operating institutions worldwide have required this recently to meet regulatory requirements.
Money laundering and scams were the main issues.

Yep. Had to reconfirm with Monzo last month. First time since I opened the account years ago.

And, yes, Revolut is a bank. Wise is not.
I greatly prefer Wise. Also, because for me it's an extra service and I didn't want an extra full blown account. But your mileage can vary :)

I greatly prefer Wise.

I do have an account with Wise and they offer a great service, very simple and comprehensive but they changed their fee structure 6 months or so back (was very competitive before) to be virtually the same as XE, I have a feeling the big guy bought out the little guy. I haven't compared Wise to Revolut lately but Revolut currently gives a better market exchange rate than the high street banks do.

As with everything horses for courses, DYOR.

Revolut does not hold a UK banking licence (it does hold one in the EEA). See here.

I’m finding Revolut’s rates aren’t as great these days.

I pay my toll account from my Santander current account. Was easy to set it up once I got the IBAN.

If you get an Emovis tag - ACTIVATE it before you travel!

Whichever tag you use, I reckon you can probably save an hour in a day's travel - especially if you use the barrier-free lanes.

If you really want to fuck off those following you, stop your mount, use centre stand and spend 5 minutes wielding your bank card. But your biker mates will be a couple of miles up the road by the time you get going.

Fine for not paying a toll in France is €375
