Got reason to take the screen off at the weekend. Was messing around in the garage tonight and realised it isn't obvious how. If you undo both adjusters they undo to a certain point then stop.

Do you just have to twist them hard, or get a spanner round the back and take off the nut??

Yes... they have a domed nut on the inside which is done up tightly to prevent the thumb adjusters from unscrewing and falling off. Just get a spanner to hold this and they'll screw off OK. In between the domed nut and the thumb screws, there is also a kind of threaded tee-nut that fits in a groove... be careful to catch it!

Cheers ballistic, I know where to start now!!:beerjug:

Be ready to catch the domed nut before it drops into the bowels of the bike. Similarly, catch the next nut which you'll come across which is the one with the flattened boss on it which fits into the adjustment groove on the rear fitting. This will similarly fall to the ground and be forever lost unless you get your fingers on it.

I speak from bitter experience :D

Yes - guess what I did!!! Fekkin little domed fekker. On refitting managed to wedge it behind the oil cooler. Luckily I managed to get it:)

All of which illustrates why it can be a Good Thing to park the bike over a piece of scrap carpet when doing stuff like taking the windscreen off. The carpet keeps the nuts and spacers from bouncing and rolling so far...

What size are those domed nuts? I'm thinking of replacing them with Ny-lock nuts, any thoughts about this?

Why...............?

They are domed because they have to live on the end of the threaded adjuster....

I can't see any possible benefit in using Nyloc nuts.......never had any problems with the OE ones coming loose in over 10k miles......

(BTW, they are 10mm....)

Cheers

The nut is a 10mm hex; the thread is a M6-1.00, which is a standard 6mm nut. If you drop the nut and it hits the ground finding it is not the problem it is if it hides itself somewhere in the bike on the way down! I too speak from experience.
