GS that is, my 1100 has a noticable step at 5000ish rpm, every GS owner ive spoke to says theres makes flat even power from tickover up. I suspect its the one of pipe thats making the difference.

Aye,

mine [1150]has a step at around 5k too, only changes are removed the internals from the cat and K+N filter

but then again mine is also a graphitan - so it's a bit special anyway:o

Mine also has a noticeable surge in power around the 5000 rpm mark (well, about 4800 rpm really). This is with K&N, BB chip and remus revolution pipe. It still makes good power down low though but the considerable surge at 5K makes it seem like it is weaker in the lower revs.

A friends 1994 GS has a fatter midrange than mine but his top-end doesn't seem quite as strong. Either way, in roll-on tests on the open road he still can't keep with me :D

Mine takes off at around 5krpm, too. I had it dyno'ed & this confirms that it coincides with a dip, then rise in the torque curve. This also coincides with a change in the fuelling map as mine runs slightly rich up to that point, then starts to weaken from 5krpm upwards.

The graph shows what im "feeling" whilst riding. Strong bottom end dips in the mid range then comes back strong towards the top end.

The important graph for me, was the middle one showing the fuel/air ratio. Ideally, it should be on or slightly below the red line as this is ideal/slightly rich. I was concerned that the Remus, Y piece, K&N plus Superchip may have been running weak but Dynojet said that it was OK. A Powercommander would help to smooth out the fuelling a bit more...... if they made one  I emailed the US to see if one was being developed & they said they have no plans to. If we all try emailing their sales address with the same query, maybe they'll get the message that they're missing a good market....

Leaning it at around the 5krpm area should fill in the torque/power curves at the same point.
