I bought a pair of Midland G7's to use with my Autocom after recommendation from Autocom. Within 2 months both radios had packed up and I was told that there has been a problem with the off/on switch with the G7's![]()
Anyway I managed to get my money back and was recommended the Intek MT5050's by a friend who got one from these guys.

He told me about this easy modification that increases the power to 4 watts too, gives them a much better range!

Might be too late - but I have an MT-3030, so thought I would share my experience:
1. Yes very easy to "trip" up to the full 4w power. However, there is little point unless the other person ALSO has a 4w radio! Otherwise he would hear you, but you won't hear him!
2. Audio quality is better than the cheaper radios (the ones that come in packs), but I still found myself repeating myself (I had it connected via a Starcom Mototcycle Intercom)
3. Build quality is very good
My advice - go for a Kenwood KT-3201. I took that step and my friends were amazed by the increase in quality.
Plus you can get an adaptor so you can power it from the bike.
The Kenwood's are not cheap - but you can often get really good bargains from eBay. Don't worry about having a used one - as the build quality of the Kenwood meets US millatary standard - so it would be really unlucky to get a duff one.
Meanwhile if you really want a MT-5050, let me know and I will sell you mine!!
