I know you get what you pay for, but is the G7 a good enough bike to bike radio? Speaking to a girl at Autocom she only recommended either the G7 at £60 each or the Kenwood at £198 each. I have found these cheaper, but there is still quite a difference in price. For the amount I will use bike to bike I would rather get the G7 but not if it doesn’t work properly!

Another question, where do you get the bum bag’s used for these radios to go in and roughly how much do they cost?

Many thanks for any opinions and advice you can give.

Dave

I don't know about the G7, but I have the older model G5's.

I have tried to use them with my Autocom and they are rubbish.

I can hear other riders, but they can hardly hear me. The VOX is poor.

Actually, they are rubbish using them on their own as well !!!

MM not too sure on the above tbh I would say Nick its more of set up issue on your bike.

From our testing the G7's will offer around 120mph speed wise and on a good day weather wise we had just under a mile between bikes with them.

Their VOX is good enough we find to be used via an Easi which doesnt need a PTT from a simple lead we made up.

We made a simple lead that ran from the phone socket on the Easi and used the VOX on the Midlands to transmit out, the Easi normally needs a PTT to allow for bike to bike to be used as the VOX on the radios is not normally that suitable for bike use.

So far I am thinking about looking for some 2nd hand Kenwood TK3201 but I still can't find any holder/cases like the training schools use!

As a matter of interest can anyone tell me what lead I require to connect Midland G7 to Autocom 300 series, thanks in advance,

A Part 1435 £13 will get you the interface lead, a PTT isnt really needed but if you are wanting to add one a Part 1457 £38 will get you sorted

Got them, that's a couple of 2nd hand Kenwood TK3201. Just waiting for them to turn up and to get the leads required to connect to my autocom. Thanks for your help.

Ok here goes. At last after far too long I have finally found a communications solution that works and at very reasonable cost. My friend and I have been looking and getting no anwers to our radios problem and decided to bite the bullet and buy the Midland G7 radio. My mate who has a plain old Arai helmet bought this item, see link http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Viking-CYKEL-...ihZ013QQcategoryZ4669QQtcZphotoQQcmdZViewItem

It included everything he needed to get his own helmet set up, i.e. headets and mic and PTT handlebar button and a Midland G7 radio. I on the other hand purchased from the same firm a Midland G7 radio on its own as I had already bought a lead with PTT for my Nolan N-Com helmet. Anyway out yesterday not ideal conditions but both radios transmitting and receiving fine and up to speeds and clearly of about 70-80mph. Bit of wind noise more so from his side but if both of you remember to push button, pause before speaking and pronounce your words everything for us anyway was dead on.

Every now and again lost each other but only for short periods of time and due in part to lie of land, buildings etc but when riding in line and distances up to about 1/2 - 1km spot on. SO FAR.

This firm is the cheapest by far for the G7 radios that i could find, although check and read their postage conditions. They only post royal mail on Thursdays, courier expected 24hr but it took them 4 days to dispatch from their place and another three to get to me, but in fairness to them i complained and they refunded postage, so very happy there.

P.S Oh and out with one set of AA batteries all day and did not skip a beat.

After the dodgy TK-3107's we bought a few years back, I won't be buying any more cheap Chinese Kenwood's thanks very much

sorry out radio not cheap copy Kenwood, our model has passed CE and FCC approval, and it shows the car run over, you may see the link: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-6448067399547016433 thanks
I’m sure you could run over my TK-3107’s with a car, but it wouldn’t make the sub channels or the programming software work!

Send me one with a handbook, programming cable and software, I'll try it and report back on the forum…

I bought a pair of Midland G7's to use with my Autocom after recommendation from Autocom. Within 2 months both radios had packed up and I was told that there has been a problem with the off/on switch with the G7's

Anyway I managed to get my money back and was recommended the Intek MT5050's by a friend who got one from these guys.

He told me about this easy modification that increases the power to 4 watts too, gives them a much better range! :thumb
