UK again Pah!..
Does anyone know how many HP2's came into the UK? I thought it would be maybe 100 but I called into a dealer at the weekend and he thought it was under 30

Just a bit of market research for a new product :)

I thought it was 37 to start with, and there's about 50 here now.Not many though.I know I've never seen another one when I've been out and about

I know HP2's are a more specialist bike (= more expensive :P ) but they are considerably lighter, have been shown to take luggage well, and are far more capable off-road than a regular 12 or Adventure...

So why haven't more been sold? Is it 'harder' to ride for us mere mortals? The tank is smaller... but then many street bikes have a similar range. It has little fairing but then neither does a Dakar and people think that is good for overlanding.

To me the HP2 looks like the ultimate bike... but I'm still a noob so what do I know :nenau I just need to pluck up the courage (and the finances!) to go try one :bow

Go on the HP day in Wales mental..... Massive rolling burn outs, slippy slides, wheelies, falling over in rivers, 2 punctures front and rear at the same time, running out of petrol in the woods, it's all good!

I have to get one it's so much fun just need the space in the garage and a suitcase full of dosh....HP day well worth the money going to smash one up and hurt yourself, before you buy one and ride it about like an old fart when it's sunny one sunday a month.

I find the HP2 very easy to ride, it is light, well balenced and very capable, dare I say it is how a GS should be? Fuel range is a PITA and once a long range tank does show at a reasonable price I will get one, otherwise it is a great bike and will make a very good tourer as well as a hooligan bike.

I was worried that the addition of luggage and a tank would turn it into a fragile version of the 1200Adv but having ridden it for a few hundred miles (only in the rain so far) I am pleased to report this does not appear to be the case.

I am tempted to say it is the best bike I have ever owned :)

I've seen at least 3 HP2 owners where I live. Well handy for spares....

only joking :) ( but there do seem a lot of HP2's about where I live )

I've looked at 6-8 different bikes second hand ones there's more about than I thought.

hp2's

never saw another hp2 in 10,000 km's travelling through europe. Including ireland. They were probably in the dirt and that ok by me.....Saw heaps of gs's in france and spain through and bugger all bikes in turkey(roads are crap) but very nice people.

Go give one a spin. It is a niche bike, an expensive one. These both contribute to a limited market. The seat height is serious. This weeds a few more out. But if any of the preceding are not insurmountable, and one has great off road interests on the horizon, don't believe there's a finer bike for unpaved roads. Well, there are fine bikes for this, but they're wearisome over many miles. The HP2 with its 100 HP engine takes one farther in relative comfort. Combined... distance and off road prowess, it is quite the bike if this is what one is interested in.

Go for it

It's a great bike off-road and on, but HUGE fun on the Road Wheels (i.e. make sure you get both sets). You will end up with a grin on your face every time you ride it.

Do get rid of the standard off-road tyres, they don;t work well in the mud other than that you're pretty much set.

BTW I know at least 4 people with one :clap and saw a batch of at least 6-7 of them at one hotel in Erfoud (Morocco) last October.

Thanks for all the replies - it sounds like the biggest issue, in terms of 'difficulty' is the height... I guess not being able to get both feet down simply takes getting used to.

sfarson and kiwiAdventure - great pics! :thumb2

I'm on the BMW level 1 course in March, riding a 12... maybe I'll be lucky enough to have a go on an HP2 there...

You can lower the front of the bike down the front forks. This is what I have done and works great.
