I would start by asking the tyre manufacturer first.

I recently bought this 05 with 13,000m rear tyre is an 06 but the front must be original dated 04 both 607 Trailmax. one owner well cared for.

If you're that worried go to an MOT station and ask them if they'd pass them

I would contact the tyre manufacturer for information.

But I'm guessing so long as the tyre is being used, and not being stored for a long period of time with the tyre in contact with the ground, where flat spots are created....then I'd think the period would be quite long.

I know rubber parts perish when stored for long periods...but would a large item like a tyre be effected I'm not sure?

I would contact the maker....and for peace of mind, if you have any concerns I would replace them.

.....better to be a couple of hundred quid out of pocket, than be sitting on your backside looking at a huge parts bill sliding down the road.

Its obviously your risk. Personally, if the tyre wasn't showing any signs of cracking on the surface and particularly around the tread block I'd use 'em.

Had a caravan once - SORRY - and the recommenation was to change the tyres at five years. Apparently their compound deteriorates over time without any obvious external damage. Caravan tyres are not special - they are 'normal' tyres fitted to a caravan.

I guess if you haven't worn a tyre out in five years you're not riding the bike enough.

If you have any doubts about your tyres....CHANGE THEM.

They're your only contact with the road.

If you don't, the best case scenario is that it will always be in the back of your mind, and you wont have confidence in the bike.

Obviously the worst case scenario doesn't bear thinking about.

If you can afford it, then I would change them as everytime you go round a corner, accelerate or brake hard, there will be a leetle nagging doubt in the back of your mind. This may cause you to hesitate when you least need to!

as far as i know most manufactures say to chance them after 5 years but then they would wouldn't they? you pays your money and you takes your chances!!!

depends where theyve been stored cool and dark theyll last much longer than in sunlight
