Heya,
I have a ram handlebar mount for my iphone that I use as a gps with tomtom software. I'd prefer to have it more central above the dash. I saw the mount from migsel but can't afford it. I was thinking of taking the silver panel off, drilling two holes and bolting the ram ball to that, so that the mount sits above the dash. It'll be more protected and in better line of sight.
My concern is whether, although the mount and phone aren't particularly heavy, whether there's enough strength to support this option in the silver panel which looks to be just a plastic piece.
Before taking it all apart could anyone tell me if they think this is a reasonable option? The alternative would be to make up an aluminium bar that mounts on the screen bolts and comes over the top but this would be more difficult and cost more than the two bolts I would currently need to mount the ram ball.
Cheers,
Justin.

Worked out OK though, just take it easy with the drill bit if you do go for it, might be better with a blunter used drill bit than a brand new sharp edged one
