How to make a Canbus GPS cable for a 1200GS

First of all a big hello from Slovenia!

I have trouble to find the canbus connector (part 833 004 135 85) for my Zumo here in Slovenia.

Can anyone help me to find one please?

Have just knocked up a lead with canbus plug for my Navman S50 thanks to this excellent guide / thread and a fair amount of self amalgamating tape :thumb

I do have a question though: I plugged the lead into the optional accessory socket behind the oil cooler and I get power straight away, without even turning the ignition on!? I thought this socket was supposed to be switch powered not perma-powered?

Please ignore my previous post - just read about the 60 second retained power feature on these sockets. Yes i'm a noob ;)

I agree, i could do with one of these, I am rubbish at anything to do with elastictrickery!!

Thanks Stumpy and the other tossers on this thread, Zumo and Autocom fitted and working. Great advice, I'de have been stumped without it.

I have this plug and connection and it works fine but I need to disconnect the plug from the BMW socket - I am struggling to separate them and don't want to do any damage. I can't see anything to prise or press while I pull ......any tips please??

Hi folks,

I was thinking of connecting some LED's on the GPS circuit. They draw only 0.03 Amps and I thought I should ask here first.:beerjug:
I have already connected a USB connector for charging my iphone, and the combo Garmin-USB works fine. Would the 0.03 Amps be a problem for that circuit?

Thanks in advance,
:thumb

Will this method sort the constant power feed on my hardwired TomTom rider II?

Not a problem. If i had to gues, it will be 5 amps like the other aux socket. The worst that can happen is that it won't work. It won't blow up, that's certain.

It will give you a switched power supply, for sure.

Hi guys - new to the forums. I have an economic Harman Kardon GPS300 European/UK sat nav which has passed from VFR to Blackbird and spent 3 years on my 2006 BMW 1200GSA, wired via various car cigarette lighter leads to a £4.99 Maplins accessory socket mounted near clocks. All good so far. But ... the £50 unit battery is dying and now knackered two power leads. Gonna wire via the built in GPS plug and make up a Maplin/BMW lead as per your directions. Can you confirm that the power out of the Canbus is reduced to the necessary 5V, 1A output via the mini USB connection, or do I need to allow for an in-line resistor to pull it down? Not sure what happens when I run it through a standard USB lead into the 12V accessory socket?

The trouble here is, that because of the low voltage and draw, the canbus may not switch off, even when the bike is completely turned off resulting in continued overnight draw from the battery.

You would be better off wiring it straight to the battery with something like this

If it's just the yellow end that connects to the bike - if you become a subscriber to this site you can PM Stumpy who can probably help ;)

If you need the end that plugs into your sat nav post up what model you have and someone may be able to help.

I found the cable for my garmin 2610 at Amazon for a very reasonable price!

Hi, Im looking to install a Nuvi 550 via the beak canbus connector: Does anyone know if I can buy a ready-made canbus to mini-USB lead (the sort of non-proprietory "standard" connector used on many phones, cameras and Garmins ?

Alternatively, would anyone be able to advise which yellow canbus wires should connect to which mini-USB pins... and a quick confirmation that the yellow wires are at 5v not 12v. Cheers

ps: I did trawl a few threads before jumping in with a noobie request, but apologies if these points are already covered elsewhere. (Links appreciated) Ta
