How to remove maps from unit?

So is there anything that makes you think that, by way of some kind of prior knowledge, or is it just a random thought that came into your head?

Because Maroco-topo is free mapping available on the net and Wanderlust have collated all the free mapping available and stuck the gps tracks people have supplied them onto them to show roads.

Quote from their site:

The maps cover the whole world and have been built from public domain and donated data.

So not realy a random thought, more of a good guess using my prior knowledge at whats happening when trying to up-load both sets of maps.

But I may be wrong. Who knows?

This on BMW web site ????

Can I load other maps onto the Navigator onto the Navigator III in addition to the pre-installed maps?

Yes, this is possible since the internal memory of the Navigator III is not completely full. Some 800 MB of memory space is additionally available. However, the pre-installed data would be completely overwritten. You can reload the entire set of fine map data at any time using MapSource, but this process can take some time.

Can I still load the internal memory of the BMW Motorrad Navigator III myself in spite of the pre-installed map data?

Yes, that is possible but not necessary since map data for the whole of Europe is already installed. The Navigator III is supplied with the entire MapSource City Navigator software which can be used when loading routes and waypoints onto the device. Map data can also be loaded but the pre-installed maps would be entirely overwritten. You can use MapSource to reload the entire set of fine map data into the Navigator III memory again, but this process can take a very long time.

For anyone having problems updating the pre-installed mapping they could try this technique (see bottom of page 1), I've tried it last night and it works.

Replaces the primary pre-installed mapping, you can even add other map sets, these will then be protected from deletion in the same way that the primary mapping is.

Obviously it's entirely at your own risk and will take around three hours in total though most of this can be done unattended.

Following reply received from BMW re map loading

Thank you for your email regarding the installation of new maps into your BMW Navigator III unit.

To load a new BMW map into a Navigator III you will need to first install the maps on to your PC, you then need an unlock code from Garmin to be able to access them. This applies to both BMW and Garmin mapping, you are then able to log into the Garmin website and pay them for an unlock code. Once the maps are unlocked on the PC you connect the Navigator III to the PC with the USB cable and a power lead, once connected the maps to be downloaded have to be selected on the PC and then the "send to device" button is pressed. The program will ask what should be sent to the Navigator III and then you should select "Maps".

If you are trying to load the Garmin software disc onto the BMW Navigator III there is a possibility that it may not work, if this is the case I can recommend that you contact the Garmin Support Line (contact details on the Garmin website). This is due to the content of the two discs (Garmin and BMW) being very slightly different due to the inclusion of the BMW Dealership list on the BMW Disc.

I trust that this information is of assistance. If you have any further queries, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Yours sincerely

Are we back to square one or does this actually work ???

have you tried it?
Who?

If you mean the technique in my link, then yes. I've now uploaded City Nav Europe 2008 and overwritten the City Nav v7 North America that was preinstalled on my US 2720. I now have, in effect, a full European 2720 which I'm very happy about :D

I even did it again to upload both City Nav Europe and a 3rd party European basemap combined into one IMG file. This keeps the basemap from being overwritten. Have even loaded the routeable world basemap into the supplementary memory.

Not sure how it would work with the NavIII and specifically the BMW dealer information. Is this data visible in Mapsource when viewing the City Nav mapping or is it a separate map set that you can view in Mapsource independently of City Nav?

I've got CN NT 2008 loaded on the Navigator III. I build a route in CN NT 2008 using mapsource, send the route to the unit. I then get a message which says"

"route does not matcg available maps. Do you want to recalculate?"

How come?:nenau
