HPN or Richie Moore?

Richie has my vote

I would go Richie

I understand the "brand" arguments for HPN. But as correctly stated above, any buyer of these bikes is likely to have done their homework too and will know of him.

Any time delays in his busy schedule are likely to be kid's play compared to the HPN lead times.

I have dipped my toe in these waters with his 18% stage one kit on my R100GS, and give it the big :thumb2

It has completely changed the bike for a few hundred ££, and I cant find a downside/compromise to this kit.

The only negative comment I have heard said is how the pistons run on low grade fuel. I am yet to try this out, as the North African Salafists have put an downer on my anticipated GS honeymoon.....

Let us know what changes you feel.

Yes I think the low grade fuel causes some pinging with the higher compression pistons. I think you can help this by advancing your timing, twin plugging, gas flow or/and changing the camshaft (I heard good results with the 296 enduro camshafts for those wanting low end torque, also the 320 and 324) but to me it seems like potentially a lot of money and work for little measurable performance. Now in race terms it may be very measurable but I just want to bimble along but be able to pass a car without dropping a gear or building up to it as one needs to do on the r80 if travelling above 60 mph.

I don't really know enough about engines to be able to have an intelligent conversation but I'm next wanting to talk to Richie about increasing the 'grunt' on my 800's. What I don't know is if I'll be better with getting richie to play with it or just bolting on the siebenrock power kit and being done with it.

Apart from the frame modification I would ideally like to leave most things bolt on so that I could always return things to stock. This may mean having 'doubles' of things like seats and rear subframes but you never know what the future may bring and I think one would have to work hard to loose money on a stock g/s these days whereas once one starts spending they don't always get it back.

Looks like you are pretty much after mine:

- WP USD
- HPN front
- HPN-like frame reinforcements
- Siebenrock kit
- extended swingarm
- stainless rear frame
- Öhlins
- TT panniers
- etc.

Migsel.... that is exactly what I'm after. Very nice pics there! What are your thoughts about the siebenrock kits... did you alter anything else? What mileage do you get with that 100gs tank on there? So many questions!!! :beerjug:

Ah.... I didn't pay too much attention... but I see you have two tanks... do you swap between the two or which have you chosen and why? I have heard that the hpn one can be uncomfortable as it widens your legs more and makes the bike handling a bit more squirrely!

I have an r100gs tank sitting the garage to use on one of the bikes but unsure about the hpn tank or to source another 100gs one. As you've had both I'd be interested in hearing your thoughts.

Does what it says on the box. More power, fairly easy to fit.

Engine-wise? No

It holds 24 litres, enough for about 350km

Perfect... thanks for that. By the sounds of it I'd be happy with that engine mod... I have just read about several guys then going whole hog and changing everything in their motor to achieve a mechanical nirvana. For how I ride I'm not sure its worth it, at least until I get the rest of the bikes sorted.

Thanks for the insight! :beerjug:

With the WP forks and a standard tank, the steering angle gets very limited.

As you can see in the second picture, the tank was modified to allow for a bigger angle.
Like so :D

The huge Acerbis tank is already located a bit more to the back, so you don't have the same problem. If you fill it up, it is quite heavy of course.
But then, you don't need to do that and if it is half full, the weight is far down so the bikes centre of gravity is lower than with the oem tank.

What more can one say other then that hammer and bar is a simple solution to the problem! Hahaha... Once painted it looks like it was meant to be there.... I just don't know if I could do it to my nice tank....:eek

I got a cheap tank off ebay, so it wasn't that bad.

But yes, it does hurt

To put my situation into perspective, I don't want anyone other than Richie to touch my bike, I've gone too far down the line of a full-on Moorespeed bike to stop now. His work is IMO far better than any other available, even HPN, and I rekon HPN's lead time is even longer. I'll get it eventually and I know it will be amazing. Don't bother with Siebenrock,Richie's pistons will give you far more power. Moorespeed can tune your build for power or torque and he's developed a replacement for the bean can with switchable timing for use in crap fuel areas. Mine will be super unleaded only (EEK!!!). :D

Yes Ritchie mentioned something about switch-able timing... it's all very flash isn't it!

Have you, or anyone, gone for an 18inch rear or are people sticking with the 17inch stock?

My moorespeed 18% kit was a simple bolt on/off for the R100. I believe that he does not have the equivalent pre-prepared kit for the 80.

This is not an issue if you are going for a full moorespeed engine re-build (:bow) and can accept the extra machining and cost.

If you are looking for something that can cheaply and easily bring an 80 back to stock - this may not be for you. You should check with him to see if my statement above is correct.

Before buying the kit, I cared v.much that my bike could go back to stock - in case I did not like the mods for whatever reason.

Now that I have it in, the only reason for taking it out is if I do a donor bike upgrade for my new pistons !

Migsel and myself swapped R80 Mono bikes a few years ago and gave them a burnout side by side to see how they differed, performance wise there wasn't much in it but the mid range on Migsels with the Siebenrock kit was so much better than than my standard engine for normal riding. As a bolt on kit it's a good option for the 80 just a bit pricy for what you get.

Richie can take your 80 heads out to 1000cc if needed.

Mine's a 18" rear rim on a 50mm extended mono swingarm.

It's only the Paralever that has the 17" rear wheel the Mono has an 18". Your stuck with the 17" unless you go for an 1100/1150 swinging arm.

Ahh... makes sense... I have two mono's so 18 it is. I really should have walked into the garage to have a look! I was reading stephen botchers bastardisation of his paralever to fit a mono wheel... I think...or maybe it was the other way around... and must have got confused.

Here's mine :D
Gletter triple clamps save you denting the tank..but are not cheap
65hp R100 engine with a 850 bevel box it's quite nippy

Very nice looking bike Garry!!! Tell us a bit about it i.e. rear subframe, how you stuck on the rear end< any others mods etc etc. :beerjug:
