Hi i have decided to buy a Hyperpro rear shock for my R1100GS,And would appreciate any advice from people in the know on which model i should go for? I am thinking of the 461 with hydraulic preload adjuster? Usually solo but we do go touring France 2 up with luggage and a good few rallys over the year. Also as theres no Hyperpro dealers in Ireland:aidan that i know of? so where in the UK can i get the best value for money meaning the best cheapest deal?? Thanks and im new to forum so:thumb

Hello sidecar

funny enough i was just thinking about fitting hyperpro shocks to my
150 gsa So i would also be interested in any feedback.

cheers Davey

Matt, (who has recently moved on to the 12000 section), equipped his 1100 with Hyperpros. You could do worse than ask him for his thoughts. He too had the conundrum of a shock that had to work 1-up, 2-up, 2-up+Verns etc.

I've just recently fitted Hyperpro progressive springs both front and rear to overhauled shocks on my 1150GSA and am very impressed with the upgrade so I would imagine that a complete Hyperpro unit would be a considerable improvement overall!

Have a look at Motorworks for some ideas http://www.motorworks.co.uk/vlive/Shop/Parts.php?T=3&NU=15&M=30&Ct=KA

Mike.

Thanks Mike i did not realize motor works did hyperpro and the tool to remove the spring on hire.. Nice one thats the front shock sorted..

Depending on your mileage it might be worth getting the front shock serviced if you intend to upgrade the rear? ABE are the only people who can service the crimped front unit on the GS/A so it might be worth getting in touch, they are also happy to fit an upgrade spring supplied by the owner but I think that they were also planning on stocking Hyperpro springs after being harassed by myself and Slipperyeel

My Hyperpro spring came courtesy of Slippery and ABE fitted it free of charge and didn't even charge me for return postage, long story....
Totally recommended though :thumby:

As Bryn says, I faced the same conundrum as you and ended up buying Hyperpro shocks for front and rear. I went for a slight uprate on the rear shock (front left standard) to allow for the fact that a fair proportion of my use was at least solo loaded, up to two up fully loaded for tours. That said, the shock was fine for solo unloaded (still needed a touch of preload).

I'd say that remote hydraulic preload is absolutely essential if you're going to be changing the preload with any regularity (or really at all) - it's impossible to get to the shock with c spanners, so you'd be removing the shock for every change of preload.

I found that prices were pretty much the same throughout the UK - I ended up buying mine from Calsport (the UK importer). As you've probably discovered, a load uprate on the shock attracts an extra cost and means the shock is a factory order so will take longer than the standard item.

Without doubt the best (and most expensive!) upgrade I ever made to my 11 - transformed it.

I bought Matt's Hyperpros off him when he moved to a 1200. Brilliant. Transformed the ride quality. I run very little mechanical preload on the springs as I prefer a softer ride but the hydraulic preload adjuster on the rear has plenty of adjustment to cope with pillion and luggage. I think the progressive spring rate on the Hyperpros is the key element in their performance. I wouldn't hesitate on this upgrade - well worth it (particularly if you are lucky like I was and can get some second-hand ones in superb as-new condition)

Like you, Nick, I managed to get hold of a S/H set of Hyperpro shocks. Mine were from Germany and the rear came without the remote preload adjuster, but has Hi/Lo speed compression adjustment on a separate gas reservoir. Total cost was €200 which worked out at £120 at the time. Possibly one of the best bargains I've had as they were as new; packed in straw in their original wooden boxes.

Definitely adding my recommendation for these.
