I’ve gone and Supermotarded my 1200GS

Got my carbon Hugger on at last :bounce1 . it fits the 190 tyre perfectly and now gives excellent protection from the spray that this huge tyre was throwing at the back of my legs.

Now waiting for the carbon front mudguard to arrive :thumb

Well, each to their own - it would be a boring world otherwise but 17" wheels on the GS makes it look pretty top heavy in my view and all out of proportion. Better on the HP2 with less bodywork up top.

gs to sm

You actually get a 5.5" (standard) and a 6" (sport) for the R1200S, the 6"(sport) rim only takes a 190 section tyre.

Hi pb

I did the conversion to my old 1200GS, but I’m not going to SM my GSA.
I still have the wheels though, and I’m thinking of selling them (I’ve had a couple of buyers interested lately).

They are R1200S wheels, the rear has a 190/50/17 pilot road fitted and the front is a 120/70/17 with a Bridgestone 021 fitted plus disks and abs ring.

With the wheels fitted my GS had much faster steering, turning and changing direction much quicker and with less effort, with no loss in straight line stability.
It also wanted to lift the front wheel under acceleration. :clap

Oh, If anyone’s interested, I’m looking for £800 ovno. For the wheels etc..:thumb2

Hi pb

front mudguard used?

hi, i'm toying with doing mine with these rt wheels. can i ask what front mudguard this is?

I've done my '05 and my new '07 as well. Here is a pic of the '07:

The rear offset is a bit much. You don't notice it unless you take both hands off of the bars and then it pulls to the right pretty hard. I fixed it on both bikes by removing .150" from the mounting flange of the wheel and also .150" from the rear drive flange. Very simple to do resulting in no pull at all :) Another thing to watch out for is how close the front disc support comes to the caliper. It actually hit the r/s caliper on my '05 and was extremely close on the '07. Its a 10 minute fix to get .040" clearance with a grinder and a can of flat black paint. You have to take just a bit of material off from an area about the size of the tip of your finger. No big deal. The bike is only lowered at the pegs by 1/2". The rear wheel is the same size in diameter as the stocker while the front is 1" smaller. The bike drops into turns much quicker with less effort. It tracks beautifully as well. I powder coated the '07 wheels gloss black for a paltry $75 for BOTH wheels! Powder coating is so simple compared to wet painting anyone could do it. The powder is electrically charged and blown on the wheel which is then placed in an oven for 4 hours at 400F. Presto, perfect finish. I had an industrial guy do it. Dropped them off in the morning and picked them up in the afternoon. He probably had a total of 30 minutes of labor invested, hence the low fee. The front fender is a cheap laid up piece from Boxer-Design painted flat black to match the other plastic bits.

Try one off a R1200R, looks the same. Or just get a R1200R save a lot of hassle, better road bike, quicker, nice riding position high bars, big panniers, if needed, even touratech it if you feel the need.:toungincheek

The BM special with wire wheels and black/white paint small screen looks great..

Must say looked at the BM one and why go to all the messing of lowered seat, suspension etc when you can have a comfy seat, fancy electronic suspension and all the gadgets along with GT style panniers, still get both feet on the ground....
Hang on think I may be talking myself into one here. Wouldn't take much, had to drag Sue off the one in Williams show room..
