I am in

My Mrs liked it, but the rear seat is a shade shorter and with the (SW-Motech) top box it felt a tiny bit cramped (sorted by modifying the mount plate to move the box back 2 inches - other top boxes may not sit as far forward either)

She reckons the Yamaha is more comfy over bumps (I think the rising rate shock is an improvement, and the forks definitely less juddery than the telever setup) and the more linear power delivery made it a smoother ride than the peakier GS, but she loved the lack of dive on the brakes with the GS and really missed that with the Yamaha - it also meant I had to brake smoother and earlier to keep her happy.

Like the GS it is fairly undersprung two-up, especially when loaded up and it is well worth the cost of a Wilburs sprung for your needs if you plan on doing a lot of two-up touring, and linear fork springs are fantastic for both comfort and handling (solo and two-up)

The Touratech Zega top box is another that leaves little room on the back (do these manufacturers actually test these things with a pillion?) so I've also had the mounting modified to move it back. Chris (Tunneruk of this parish) did this and some other work for us and SWMBO really appreciates the extra room. Neither of us were impressed by the standard seats and had new ones made which has increased comfort but that's true of every bike we've owned except the two 1400GTRs. I also did the front seat mod to stop me tilting into the tank.

We find the Tenere a very comfortable bike except for the on/off throttle of the 2014 model (which will be resolved) but it's not as comfortable as our Wilbers-shod GSA.

BMW seem to have lost it as far as build quality goes...You hear about far to many problems
Rode a S10 loved it bought one simple as :thumb

Congrats, wear well....wait til the engine loosens up. Mine did at around 21k kms last month, its defo more peppy, not just saying....

My ONLY gripe, the bike is heavy if you're moving around on foot, you can feel the weight in the top of the bike. But when riding its fine. The rear shock is quite versatile. Ive worn my boots on the soles it handles that good, took another hero blob off one of the pegs. Very very stable bike. Im running Metzler Tourance Next now...:thumb

BTW, mine is same colour with yella sticker kit. I do like that red I have to say....:D

Thinking of taking the plunge into the Tenere pool myself, I have liked them since they first came out but haven't done yet..........!

What is the verdict by pillions on pillion comfort? It looks to have a nice flat seat without the forward slope that lots of bikes have nowadays

My other half has been on the bike for a couple of 2 hr stints, loves it. Says its very comfy. I added the MRA screen which helps her against wind buffeting. A back box with a pad is essential for pillion comfit. The shaft is uber smooth, just glides quite literally. Her only gripe, sometimes ( not all the time ) she thinks the pegs are a little high, go figure :nenau

I collected a buddy from the city few weeks ago, he's over 6'. Didnt even know he was on the bike. He loves the bike himself, loves it. Id say it will be on his list at some stage. Ive been on the back of my bike once ( im a terrible pillion ), it was very comfy. As flat as the seat is, you dont need to move around too much.

Do it, buy one !

Just hit 30k on my S10 and not a single problem, unlike my previous GSA which had 3 shaft drives and an ABS controller by the time it got got close to 30k.

That's not good. I hope I'm not tempting fate but we've travelled just over 50k miles in the last 2.5 years on our GSA and had absolutely no issues at all.

Mighty........they're pretty damn good. I was consiering selling mine, buying something smaller but couldnt let it go.

I got the headlight wirer recall done couple of weeks ago. Quick job. The issue was "heat arching" on the light loom - the high dip led on the dash would flash on / off, but it only ever happened once. And that was a couple of months ago.

Id call that pretty damn good for a bike thats new from the ground up pretty much.:weights

Mine is going in for the recall in a few weeks but I haven't had any issues with the lighting at all.
Got a big service coming up so figured I'd get it done at the same time.

The lights didnt seem to suffer from what I noticed. Just the full beam led flickering on the dash when the wire was arching. Only happened the once...I was riding for over 3hrs so prob due to heat afert long periods of riding (?). Sorted now anyway.

Can you give more detail on the seats you had made, how much, where from etc?
Ta

I can but it wasn't cheap.

Rick Mayer Cycle did our GSA seats when we over there last year and I was so impressed I sent our Tenere seats to him. IME seat builders over here cut bits of foam from blocks with which to build up the existing seats, Rick discards everything but the base then blows his own foam, it's a whole different ball game. When he was doing our GSA seats he brought out a piece of foam that had been inserted into the seat over here and, with a look of disgust on his face, said "What is this?!". There is no comparison between the seats Rick has done and any I have had modified in the UK.

Anyway, the cost was around £300 plus I got stung for duty when they were sent back. We had originally intended that my wife would pick them up when she was over in the States next but they weren't ready - they took 2.5 months to come back to us during which time the bike was off the road because I couldn't find a spare set of seats to buy. There were numerous promises - tomorrow, next week - before they eventually arrived. He makes a really excellent job of the seats but seems to be having some issues with turnaround at the moment. I recommended him to a friend of mine who is also struggling to get his seat back despite it being a couple of months or so. For that reason I wouldn't recommend him to anyone else I'm afraid.

I've attached a couple of photos which aren't great because it was just starting to pour with rain and I was getting wet!

If only I had known Kev, I have a spare set of OE seats for the Super Tenere (mine is a 2011 model but I think the 2014 are the same) as I bought a set of Tony Archer modified seats from someone on here. My plan is to refit the OE seats when I sell the bike and sell the modified seats separately. I would have happily loaned the seats to you for the 2.5 months.

You have? It didn't occur to me to ask if anyone had a set they would lend me. Thanks for the retrospective offer anyway Dave.

Our seats were fitted to our 2011 Tenere before I swapped them on to this one so they are the same.

<snip> Rick discards everything but the base then blows his own foam, it's a whole different ball game. <snip>

Having posted the above I was sitting here thinking "I can't imagine how does he do that". I was sure that's what he said to us when we were there but having read Rick's FAQ I think it may be complete tosh! The second sentence is true - I've tried several UK seat builders, and had seats from Kahedo, Sargent, Bagster, etc., and the seats have been nowhere near as comfortable as the seats we have from Rick - but I must have misunderstood the bit about blowing his own foam (which sounds a somewhat lewd practice!).

My wife finds the seat comfortable enough. Her problem and mine was the distance to the foot pegs.
She was getting sore knees and I was hitting her knee/thigh with my elbow in tight u turns.
The problem was cured buy buying a set of 40mm drop rear foot-pegs.
They work very well curing the original problem. However she now has further to stretch to get on the bike. But once on-board she is very happy.

Hope this helps. They do sit out a little in the up position which the picture does not show. can't seem to find a pic to show that.
If you really need I can take one next time I'm out.

I had this key cut the other day for the top box and panniers
It's shorter than the ignition key and far stronger
It makes the panniers and top box feel a lot more user friendly to lock and unlock
The guy at the shop in the photo just used a yam key and cut some off it at my request
If you have the yam luggage a very worth while thing to do :thumby:
