All the modes, for fek sake does no one know how to use a throttle any more.

I feel a bit sorry for Rain mode
One of the guys, at the dealership who rode it all Monday agreed and he is a very fast rider, who can get the Boxer heads scraping on the track, on his own bike...............so it seems I wasn't alone
The bike gets coarse in Dyna
There are 9 different suspension modes.... sounds like you didn't have the right one selected for your fine physique.... I did cycle through ESA to Soft after about 1/3 of the ride because I found it so harsh
So after that it did get a bit better

i wasn't doubting your ability on a bike. in fact i am surprised you don't want to control it yourself, but hand control to the ECU which metaphorically cuts the crusts off your sandwich for you

I don't quite understand why dealers are letting the bikes out without explaining how to get the digital display set up properly.
The speedo is hard to read, but the digital display can be set to show your current speed and is a real bonus over the older model GS's.
It is also very handy if you want to see if the engine temperature has been increased by the fitting of radiator guards...
I tend to ride in ROAD and Comfort, but each to their own.

- I don't get the harsh and under-damped bit though, that sounds like a contradiction, normally too much damping would make the suspension 'harsh' and too little would make it 'bouncy'. I have only ridden the 'vanilla' suspension not the fancy gazillion mode option.

Maybe I didn't explain it very well, Cookie
I found Rain mode at the end of the ride, I wish I had found it at the beginning for these reasons :-
It allowed me to find the limits and flow of the bike on some tight and sweeping roads both up and down hill, to build up some rhythm and ride the bike off the throttle and use little or no brakes (which is my style of riding)
Then - build up on Road and then onto Dyna
So a series of building blocks, to find the potential of the bike from 'ground up'
I think you need a few test rides of at least 4-5 hours to really understand the bike and its potential

I know what JB is saying regarding the 'RAIN' mode. Whilst during my 2,500 mile test I found 'ROAD' mode more suited to everyday riding. But on the Welsh mountain roads, and indeed the Yorkshire Dales, I found 'RAIN' mode more suited to the local terrain.
Yes of course you could leave it in any of the modes and and ride it yourself but.... JB has realised what I meant when I said this bike enhances the rider experience

Eveyone is allowed a bit of cut and thrust surely, especially with the launch of a new bike

Cheers Paul..........................you'd have to be a GP rider to give it 10/10ths in Dynamic mode over some of the gnarliest Welsh Mountain/Scottish Highland/Peak District or Yorkshire Dales roads
Sadly we're not that good
