i spent 3 hours at the dealer today before leaving with the bike. i left with the yellow bike/abs/heated grips/118 db aftermarket horn/engine guards/cylinder protectors/led brake light motolights with radial caliper install.

if i make a long post... my wife will kill me (been gone too long and i'm riding with a friend at 6:00 tomorrow

i'll post pics later
my initial thoughts (25 miles ride home in traffic)
- it's not possible to keep it below 4K in the break-in (i hope they're kidding about that)
- the engine is lively/the idle is rough (but it's brand new)
- the brakes are great/though more lever travel than i imagined for the front
- the rear brake is NON-existent
- the screen was fine... didn't play with the adjustment
- i never took the low seat... i left the standard seat on on the LOWER setting (remember that i'm 5'6" with 28" inseam.... and i feel very confident on it
- it came with the michelin tires (great for street/not good on the dirt)
- the bike is smooth/quick/agile as can be

will be riding 250 miles tomorrow
i already made the appt for the 600 miles service
they told me it would be $280.00!!!!

i thought that others said it was less..... mabye $168.00 like the K-S

hmmmm
that's all for now
thanks to everyone who's helped me come to this decision
i'll post more later

and....

they were so impressed with my horn... that they killed my battery blowing it so often
and they have no AGM battery chargers there
they made me use the battery tender plus pigtailed to the battery
which i think is NOT allowed

isn't that right?

:hapybnce:

As far as I'm aware this is not a service offered by UK dealers ;)

Sorry, very childish, I know...................

Welcome to the world of GS ownwership :) :)

A couple of points, not sure I read your post right, but, 'radial caliper' - really  ?

And your first 600 mile service - in the UK the first service is always free (well labour is, parts at cost). This is pretty much true of all manufacturers as well, not just BMW. I'd have thought it'd be the same across the pond?

Enjoy your ride!

well
the caliper mount...
i guess they aren't radial calipers
too much time thinking of K1200S's and CBR1000RR's

rode 280 miles today
rode great
94 degrees out/90% humidity
went with my friend, Hans, and his K-S

hard to keep below the 4,000 rpm limit during break-in
SO I DIDN'T
who can do that
4,000 rpm in 6th is 71mph
and that is the speed limit on some roads around here
i know most don't adhere to it anyway

have 360 miles on the bike now
supposed to ride 200 tomorrow
but don't have service scheduled for a while
might have to rethink that

the bike is everything the europeans (who've made the bike the #1 seller) and more

simply incredible

Very nice :)

Are you sure that's a garage and not your surgeory.......I've never seen such a clean floor ;)

What's the silver 'bullet' outboard of the disc - looks like a small running light?

Andres

Good to see you've chosen the best colour for a GS!

The garage is just too clean to be believed - do you wash your bikes and car before you put them away?

Anyway congratulations and enjoy!

that's a funny question
my neighbors would love it
i've NEVER washed my car in my life (fortunately it has rained hard lately and that cleaned it off)
and my bike is only 3 days old

i last washed my LT about 4 months ago....
not sure why it is so clean

the garage floor is very new... it'll be dirty in no time
