I went down to Three Cross Motorcycles on Saturday for a cuppa at the burger bar that i sold in june and just happened to slither my way into the Triumph show room and low and behold, there in the corner was a 01 GS1150 in that sickky yellowy "must-turd" colour at 12,262 miles. As a point of intrest i had the smart sales guy out by the burger bar to give me a trade in on me lovely Triumph Tiger 955i on an 03 plate at 11,000 miles with all Givi luggage, new tyres and its a minter like all the bikes i own(oil and filters every 3,000 miles etc etc).
Well,he gets out his little book(which i have a copy of) and sneers,"3,500 quid".
The Bmer is up for £5,000 with no luggage and a chip-o-rust on the tank and it aint been cleaned,so i grab im by the gonads and say " a grand in cash to change and we got a deal". "ok" he says and i sign on the dotted.
So now im a Tosser.Ive got a bike with more milage and its not in as good a condition as me loverly loverly Triumph..but moan i am not and i shall tell you why.
We did 2 weeks in Scotland in August Eddie,Old GS1150(toadsbody),Adie,GS 1150 Adven(stone-dweller) and me.In bloody rain and some gails...camping you know,in thoughs tenty things.Anyway we were all loaded up ..panniers..topboxes..tankbags and tents etc strapped on behind us and all the bikes weighed a ton,and i noticed sommit as we rode in wind and rain.I noticed that i was strugglling and they were not.I mean when at a standstill if any of the bikes become unsettled and tipped you couldnt hold them but once on the open road, with all that weight, both Bmers with all their weight lower down sailed on.By the way Eddies has done 75,000 miles. The Triumph is just to tall you see,all heavy high up,and thats why it has to go.The Bmers just do everything better. Now all i need are some cheap panniers for the GS..can any body help?
