Well guess what ? I have actually managed to greak the screen on my Garmin 2610 :blast and before ye all start laughing I can't even remember doing it. I swear I wasn't drunk officer:augie
Anyway to the task at hand, can a replacement screen be purchased from any source without sending the unit back to Garmin?

As usual I'm sure ye will come up with some useful suggestion as usual.

its dead easy. I did the same on My NavII. Ring Garmin and get a RMA code. Stick it in a box and send it back to them with a covering letter withthe RMA code on it. Wait a couple of days and Garmin will send you a quote for repair they charge betwen £25 and £135. Ring em up pay the fee and you will probably get a brand new one sent by return post.
Wel tahts what happend with Mine. Whish was out of warantee when I did it. I got a new unit with a years warantee. New unlock codes to go with the unit and just got an email this week with the unlock code fo v9.

can you not wrap it up in cling film to save sending it anywhere.:nenau That way you get to keep it and use it. :augie

The touchscreen no longer works so I don't think clingfilm is the answer in this case.
I seem to remember a post by PanEuropean saying that one of the reasons the touchscreen would pack in, was because the dirt that accumulated around the edges needed cleaning. A search should prove useful. :thumb

so nothing to do with the fact he has cracked the screen then ?

This is Garmins reply to my email for help. I received it at start of business today having sent a request at 11pm last night. Hope the actual service is as good as this.

Thanks for contacting Garmin Europe.

For out-of-warranty repair, GARMIN used to charge parts and labor. This became a resource intensive task of estimating the repair, and trying to contact the customer with the estimate, and so on. Many customers wanted an estimate before they sent the unit in for repair to determine if the unit was worth fixing or not. Obviously you can't do this until you see the unit.

About two years ago, we switched from the parts and labor method of calculating repair charges to a flat rate overhaul system.
With this system, there is a single flat rate charge for complete factory overhaul of a specific product returned to the factory for service. The customer knows up front what the charge will be, so there are no surprises.

The factory overhaul process is a thorough process which brings the unit up to the same specifications as when it was new. Any cosmetic issue are addressed, like scratched lenses, cracked cases broken antennas, worn out NiCad battery packs, etc.. If possible, the software in the unit is updated to the latest version applicable to the product. Any modifications or updates are installed in the product as appropriate. Our goal is to send a product back to the customer in a new condition, regardless of the condition it was in when it was received.

The cost to repair a 2610 is around £140 inc VAT.

Please let me know if you wish to go ahead.

Kind regards

yes it is. I have nothing but praise for garmins support in the UK. As I said iin my first reply to your post, ben though this myself with a nav11 an paid £134+vat and got a band new in the box flly complete nav11 by return of post. They even copy all your waypoint, route and tracks data off the old unit and email it back to you. You can evekeep hod of yor ol CF card when yu send your unit back.

so nothing to do with the fact he has cracked the screen then ?
He doesn't mention that he's cracked the screen. He says the screen in broken - the touchscreen doesn't work. :nenau

Obviously, if there's a bloody great crack in it, then that's the problem. :D

no worries I spend all day listening to people try to explain why things don't work, you get a sixth sense and an ability to hear what they don't say :)
