Buy a bike with a replacement engine?

I agree and that’s what I’ve done. I went back to the dealer and had a closer nose around the bike. Glad I did because I saw plenty of other components that looked “ not good” for a 2k mike bike. I concluded that the bike has not been looked after, ridden in salt and not taken care of.
So, I found a 10 miles (pre-reg) for a few quid more. And, got a great trade in on on mine. I’m much happier, although it’s a shame that I couldn’t stay loyal to my local dealer - never mind :nenau

would that be from Guildford by any chance?, 10 miles on the clock with full luggage, sat nav and a couple of other extras thrown in

Close but no cigar! North Oxford. Ice Grey pre reg. Was only looking, but got such a good price on mine. During the week I’d contacted just about every dealer in the Uk and done my homework. They were professional, courteous and friendly. And as my mate puts its “no posh jewellery attitude” I’m happy.

That's interesting ... I see they've dropped all their pre-reg bikes off their website :augie

A new engine is no guarantee of no future corrosion, if you are happy to take the bike as it is you could ask for the price of the new engine to be taken off the price.

That's what I'd go for.

Supplying and replacing the engine will cost someone at least £3k so a similar discount will make the bike a low mileage bargain.

I did ask, but BMW computer said NO.
Had it been an option, I’m sure they’d have ask me to agree to a disclaimer on ALL & ANY future claims regarding engine corrosion!

It might be £6100 plus vat for a f800gs motor but for a black replacement engine for a r1200gsa part nos 11008404185 try 10,032.07 Euros ie £10.000

For what it’s worth I bought a 14 plate GSA two years ago from Allan Jeffries at Baildon. After having had it for approx two weeks I washed it and some paint the size of your fingernail came off the front engine plate exposing bare metal. I noticed upon closer examination some bubbling of paint on the engine. I informed AJ’s, photos were sent to BMW and a new engine was authorised. I saw the final invoice including engine, parts and labour and it was North of 8k. I only paid £11k for the bike in the first place!

AJ’s even provided me with a free first service. It was a win, win situation. Additionally the engine which was installed was a 2017 version with a less clunky gearbox.

I suppose its a moot point now but I had a replacement engine in my 1250, Williams Manchester damaged the frame paint during installation which has resulted in a spray cover up which is super noticeable. Not happy but not alot I can do.

Why is there nothing you can do? Not acceptable from a main dealer imo
