Replacement Engine Quandary

Blimey .... there really is no pleasing some people :blast

In May 2014 I was pleased, I'd shelled out £14k ish on a premium product that seemed to deliver what it promised.

If I'd spent the same on a premium watch & worn it for a fortnight (which is about the number of hours my GS has been ridden) then the mechanism needs to be replaced because the face is tarnished even though its not been abused in any way, with no confidence it won't happen again and a bill of £529 for the privilege. Then do you seriously think I'd buy another of the same make or recommend to someone else that they do.

I have every right to be pissed off, I've paid dearly for the privilege & I am not alone.

Ah, I didn't realise that you had to pay towards the new engine etc. I think I would be pissed off as well !

Mate I feel your pain, I am getting new engine, drive and bevel next week! I had my 09 GSA and loved every mile of the 40k I put on the clock, since I bought my 65 plate I have been nothing but disappointed in the bike! Might just leave it with the dealer and chop her in for something that will last!

Just can't be bothered worrying about it becoming a rust bucket again!

Maybe it's time BWM took note and sorted there lives out as I think a trip to triumph is a foot! I know the Triump Explorer XC will never meet up to the GSA but it will never live down to the disappointment I am feeling!

I know the GSA BMW fans of which I am will smash me for this post I'm just feeling gutted at having spent £17400 on a bike and it looking like a cheap import!

Gutted as I love her

Oh Stevie. Sometimes that dog of life gives us a sharp nip on the ankles, but for me it does one thing....'wakes us up'

Having been a BMW man through and through for well over 20yrs, in April 2013 I purchased a new 1200gs wc. In many ways a very good bike, but 16mnts later it had taught me a valuable, if expensive lesson. BMW, although the market leaders in this section, are now a long way from being the premium product they pretend to be.

After the troubles with my bike, and after long deliberation, I decided to move on. It was not without some trepidation that I left BMW behind, but honestly it was the best thing I ever did. There's a lot of stuff out there that's a lot nicer to ride than a GS...and easier to own.

Your watch analogy is a weird one

The changing of the engine and the subsequent cost to you was your decision to make. No one forced you in to spending your money. You could have decided against doing so and used the money instead to purchase something else but you didn't. So now it appears you've donated £529 towards a lost cause that has not enhanced the part exchange value one jot yet will be something that someone else will reap the benefit from. That's just plain :loopy

I didn't have to contribute towards the cost of my replacement engine and swing arm but have to agree here, jolly good bike but crap quality. WTF is going on with BMW Motorrad?

I really am struggling to understand the issue. If you're not happy with the bike, sell it, and move on.

Nice analogy, I would be fucking fuming and you have every right to be too

The last new bike I bought from BMW, was a 1150GSA in April 2005 and she still resides in the garage to this day

32000 miles and she looks like this, after 11 years:thumby:

Still on the same engine, same paint, not one tarnished spoke and all original fasteners, no stainless bolts whatsoever.........:augie

Yeah, but your wheels have gone purple, in the sun!:P

How can you have ridden through two winters.

April 2015 to Aug 2016 is one winter !! unless I am missing something

Must have ridden south after the uk winter and visited the rain and misery somewhere in Southern Hemisphere, you've seen the film 'Endless Summer' so now just think of the reverse of that. One man, following the pissing rain around the world.

Wish I had kept my 2008 GSA with 28k on the clock but chopped it in for an LC R1200RT. They sure don't make them like the original R1200's anymore......

Ok thanks for the note!

I am pleased to announce I have booked some test rides next week!

BMW are surely at some point going to feel the pain of producing a very poorly finished machine!

When my bike has had her surgery I am going to collect her on the trailer, add 0 miles and let someone else enjoy her!,,, then a year or two they will find themselves crying at night as the thing has tarnished into a bucket!

To all those out there that are negative towards the once amongst us that are not happy I would simply say that I have worked all my life have a fairly good job but in my world 16-17k is a lot of money! To have worked hard and saved for all my goods and watch something go down the tubes before my eyes is sole destroying! Perhaps if I had more money than sense I would be happy with new engine ect but that's not the point!

Point is that the bike is very poorly finished build quality is poor and BMW have let themselves down!

Now to decide what the next chapter holds! Certainly want be a BMW
