i-pad? Nah!

er, no.

it doesn't have a phone function unless you add skype.

And Skype runs damn well on it......just waiting for the iPad 2 now with the front facing camera to make Skype even better......oh hang on, haven't apple done that on iphone 4 yet the front facing camera doesn't support the app............

See, I am not a complete Mac lover - they too have their infuriating side just like Micro$oft.

Still the iPad is an amazing bit of kit:jibber

I'm sure I'll end up with one. Just got to find something that it does that my desktop, laptop, netbook and iPhone don't do to raise a Procurement Request with the wife :D

Download a copy of Corrie and convert it for use on iPad - when she sees the screen the debate will be over and the Domestic Chief of Staff will sign over the required amount!

Simples:cool:

The only problem I have with my iPad is fighting with Skye to use it in the evenings while on holiday. It has worked out a great gadget and has kept Skye amused when the local attractions around here have been shut (do Austrians not swim in the rain!!!) . Great for decent reviewing of any photos or videos we have taken each day. Most accommodation we have stayed in so far has wifi and great performance when browsing the web and uploading stuff. Skye has been watching loads of stuff on YouTube without any problem. Battery life is amazing and lasts for hours and hours without charging. Have used skype on it and worked fine, though a camera would be useful

Easily one of the most used gadgets I have bought and excellent for holidays and like all my Apple products, it just does what I want with absolute ease.

How do you get photos on to iPad without a computer? Is there a USB connection?

You pay Apple another £25 for the camera connection kit.

You could use dropbox or other applications as well mind.

I use dropbox its fine and i was one of the first to get a ipad , offered it on here within 24hrs , but now i am very glad i did not sell it its great and i use it for all kinds of things, sits in the spam tin on my gsa and comes with me all over the palce.
Whatching tv on it is great when your outside an dthat.

Big D:)

Yes that's the bit you need. The camera connection kit is two small adaptors that fit into the iPad connection slot. One is a USB adaptor which can be connected to cameras and videos devices to upload photos/videos. It is possible to connect other USB devices to the iPad using this adaptor such as keyboards.

Personally I use the other adaptor which has an SD Memory card slot. All my cameras use SD cards so that is the easiest way. As soon as you insert a SD card into the adaptor the iPad's Photo application comes on, showing you thumbnails of all the files on your card and asks if you want to import them. At the end you can select to delete them from your memory card.

The imported photos/videos then show up in the Photo app. I have Photobucket for iPad and can upload them easily from the Photo app to Photobucket. Once uploaded it give you all the code for embedding photos and this can be easily selected by touching the appropriate one. Once in Safari its easy to paste the link in a post. You can use Dropbox to upload photos to the WWW. I use Apple's MobileMe iDisk for uploading selected stuff.

When I connect my iPad to my home computer iPhoto finds all the new stuff on my iPad and you can easily import it into iPhoto with one click.

I believe you can also upload other stuff from an SD card to an iPad as long as its in a directory on the SD card called DCOM (I think that was it, just like a normal camera card directory structure).

I use loads of PDF documents on my iPad and they are uploaded from my PC using GoodReader App.

So i'm guessing the i pad didn't come with a spell check app then...

Now, given that I am exactly their target audience and will leap at the excuse to buy a new toy (I work damn hard etc etc) - the house has 2 imacs, 1G5, 2 powerbooks and countless iphones and ipods amongst my family - I was decidedly unimpressed.

I think you're a million miles off the target audience for ipad, why would they want you buying a £600 ipad when they've got you buying £1500 laptops £3k desktops and all the rest of it?

The iPad is for my missus. It's not that she doesn't want an iphone any more than I don't want a book on Environmental Philosophy. It just doesn't even register on her radar. She watches BBCi in jitter mode on a Ebay third owner imac with a 14" screen, emails her friends and searches readerly websites and overpriced fair trade clothing from peru and wouldn't be without her iPod classic. She'd read classics on Stanza and listen to Radio4 whilst looking over my shoulder asking why she doesn't understand what the hell all those open windows on my MacBook actually mean.

She doesn't need a phone, she uses skype to ring friends abroad and has a bulletproof nokia in her cycle panniers for ringing friends at home.

Three guesses what she's getting for christmas... if she's very very good :augie.

Very nice... I have the wireless keyboard for this thing... Never use it as the touch screen is great..do however forget to check what I have typed from time to time and being American it does put some strange words in predict-a-text mode!

Would like the sd card facility and have docs to go which gives me all I need however if it could run a couple of other programms we use then the laptop would be gone:thumb
