Ok, I'm sure this has been spoken about many times, but as an ipod user, is there a system or mod that can be fitted to a gs that:-

mounts the ipod under the seat

charges the ipod

keeps the ipod secure

I would be interested to see and hear how others have tackled this problem.

Thanks

Paul

Get a cigarette socket iPod charger from ebay for £1 ish and wire it in - simple. Wrap it in foam = cheap, or get one of these:

I also have a Griffen Air-Click - wireless remote with nice big buttons you can put on the bars/tank to controll it all.

Sorted.

Interesting........I use the iPod remote in the map pocket of the tankbag while the iPod itself lives inside the tankbag....I rely on battery power only so have to take the charger on longer trips.....

The Air-Click remote.......what is the range & is the remote element waterproof?

Cheers

I use the Griffin Airtrip, which I velcro the the handle bars. The ipod stays in my pocket.
Doesn't allow recharging, but it does mean you can adjust volume, flick through tracks and pause it.

Err - that's an Airclick is it not?

Answer - probably not technically waterproof, but certainly splash - I have it mounted under a little cowel (not a Simon Cowel, so don't start) on the bars - but you could easily wrap a little bag over it - the buttons are big and easy to use.

Range - dunno technically, but it's certainly well over a couple of meters.

Jimbo's right - you can't Airclick and charge at the same time - but my Ipod does 8+ hours on a charge, so I just charge it when I overnight, or if needs be, just give it a play without the airclick whilst it's on charge.

I don't bother with covers etc for the iPod - I keep it in my inside pocket, nice and safe from water and, more importantly, vibrations. I just run the lead from the Aux socket into my pocket if I need to charge it on the move - which is more or less never.

I also have a Boosteroo for use with the Roof helmet with speakers built-in (the "around towner") as opposed to the earbuds.

Sorry I meant Airclick - I got confused.

I took the remote apart, sprayed it satin black, and used some non-setting type instant gasket (hermetite gold?) to water proof it better. The design is well suited to it, having a rubber key pad.

Having said that, it stopped working earlier this week :blast. I'm hoping its just a flat battery, as it was in my pocket all day, so might have had a key held down. It could be water ingress though.
I'll take it apart this week end and report back.

I agree with Bigtwin, I considered mounting it on the bike, but decided that the waterproof breast pocket would be a better environment. Mine is a hard disc based ipod and I don't think they mix well with the vibrations from a bike.

the range is meant to be sufficent to use it from room to room in the house, although I found this a dubious claim. Its certainly far enough for the bike.

It also means no unplugging if you get off the bike. The obvious limitation is no integration with a GPS, or intercom. I don't have an intercom, and I've never bothered with voice prompts with a GPS.

the website claims:
AirClick uses RF signals that travel through walls for control anywhere in your home or outside, up to 60 feet away

I forgot to say that - mine too, and I read (on here) that a few people had managed to fry the HDs with vibration. I also have a little solid-state MP3 which I just stick on the bars with velcro, and that's fine, having no moving parts.

I too don't do audio with the GPS and don't do intercom/phone malarky. Though I assume you could do a dongle and bluetooth arrangement if you could be arsed?

good news, a new battery has done the trick.

Any recommendations on in helmet (full face Shoei) speakers/headphones?

I have some customs and some Sure in-ears.

Sures as just as quiet and confortable for me, and a lot cheaper (they fit these in the custom ones anyway).
