Just looked at my new July 22 registered GS Rallye and it’s got 17mm on right at 19mm on left cylinder
I did not try the Warranty Claim as I know it wouldn't work. It is (still) not considered a fault. The mechanic at BMW has his own GSA still on warranty and it has very loud ticking from left cylinder. Even he can't do anything with warranty. He said he will be ordering the updated tensioner as well for his bike.Mine’s a January 21 registered bike. Did you try to get it done under warranty at the dealer. I’ve got it booked in for a service on 3rd October at Allan Jefferies and have reported the left side ticking but they didn’t react as if it was a known issue. Be interested in what you think when you’ve changed it.
Had my 2020 cam tensioner rreplaced for the newer type under warranty with no issue ,done during the service .I did not try the Warranty Claim as I know it wouldn't work. Your dealers bullshitting !! Parts guy claimed he didn't know but i persisted and magically the tech guy had one in stock ,just tell him to check the left cylinder tensioner on a 2022 GS and it'll be 19mm compared to 17mm for older modelsI mentioned the upgraded tensioner to my dealer today whilst I was waiting for my scooter to have it’s first service next door
He denied all knowledge and didn’t look happy at all that I’d asked the question![]()

That’s very concerning, I can understand a upgraded tensioner being introduced during the production life of an engine but that kind of wear at such low mileage makes me think about getting rid of mine (Jan21 R1250GS). It will be in at Allan Jefferies in a couple of weeks and I have asked them to investigate the left cylinder noise.Mine was in for its annual 6000 mile service today and asked them to investigate the left cyl ticking noise. They have fitted new inlet and exhaust cams on left and right cycl, all the rocker arms and friction plates and the bike is a lot quieter and smoother now. There was quite a bit of wear and pitting on the cam lobes. No updated cam chain tensioner required.
