My current setup is like this

1 x R1200GS with Givi Airflow screen and nippy normal winglets.
1 x 12 stone bloke at 5'11" wearing a Schuberth C3 lid.

During dry conditions the lid and screen combo is excellent. The air passes over the top of me so that its visor up all the time at around motorway cruising speed.

However...

Problems occur when it starts to rain.
Due to the screen there is no wind blast to move the rain away. (In any position it seems...)
More than that, due to the screen, the vortex that used to be a buffeting problem has been lifted above my head. But this now forces the rain down the visor. So now if i have the visor opened just a smidgen, then droplets are coming down inside. ARGH

Are there any other givi airflow users experincing similar problems?

If i cant adjust the screen accordingly, then it looks like the original screen may have to go back on.

I have exactly the same set up....................and the same thing happens to me. I think it's the helmet. Water seems to come in even with it shut, probably because it's not shut all the time you lift the visor then it comes in.To be honest not impressed with this aspect of the Shuberth. I like to have the visor up slightly all the time but with the Shuberth up one notch it vibrates badly and makes the vision slightly blurred. My cheap Caberg before never did this it was great in that respect. The Shuberth is obviously much quieter and more comfortable though.Something that will help is, I always use a visor spray that dispels the water. Then just stick my head into the air flow as required.

Screen

I had the same prob with a T T screen extender, ,brilliant in dry but useless in the wet, would not blow rain off at all. Logical really it obviously aint gonna work in rain if there's no draught in the dry.

I have a C3 that fits perfectly but any turbulence causes my head to vibrate. Open the visor on the forward vent and apart from water running in the vibes are even worse.

I also have a BMW system 5 that's one size larger. No vibrating head because the helmet can move a little and fewer misting problems.

A fix for the Givi 330 could be to take the top screen off or tilt the lot further back. Maybe fit tobinators with thumb screws to allow quick adjustment.

Annoyingly, it was the purchase of the c3 helmet which started all this....
I needed a new lid and opted for the c3 flip. Previous lid was a nolan flip.
Now the nolan was noisey with the original screen, but wearing earplugs wasnt a problem.
However, with the standard screen, the c3 was affected by buffeting no matter wherer the standard screen was set.
So purchased the givi screen.... and wahey no buffeting.
Except there obviously is as its forcing the rain down inside the visor.
I had no idea what tobinators were until recently so it may be that they are the answer as the c3 functions much better in full on air flow.

Im 5ft 8ins use a Shoei Multitec and an Airflow& winglets. I can run all day long with visor open even if it rains and never have a problem.

BUT. This is incredible. Visor up at 70mph and now nice and quiet inside the C3 with no buffeting. Just the job

Just a shame about the pesky rain spoiling everything. Summer 2014 cannot arrive soon enough.

I use the xscreen extender and it is adjustable, so I just pull over and change the ang;e to suit the conditions. I 6'2 with either the Shoei Qwest or the Tour X I have no issues.

No issues, you just have to put up with a little bit more wind noise..

Never intended as a rant or a wind (nice if unintended pun, there) up. The topic just amused me first thing this morning. The endless persuit of still air on a motorcycle, undone at the first drops of serious rain.

To which can of course be added moans of getting too hot in the summer (coupled to urgent appeals for tips on lighter and lighter clothing) ... fellows having removed all possible air from circulating.

Though there does remain the lingering wonder at just how many bods do really ride around all day at 70 MPH with thieir visor up? Actually, forget that, I really do not want to know



PS Buy a 1600, all these problems fade away.

PPS To the OP.... Don't spend more and more. Just buy a nice cheap V-wipe. Not very sexy or high in the bling stakes, I grant you. Job done.

I was slightly confused as my original nolan didn't have the buffeting problem. It all started when got the c3. Hindsight is a wonderful thing, as had I known this I would have stuck with the nolan.

Stupidly, I assumed the c3, being the quality lid I thought I was buying, wasn't at fault and set on changing the screen. The c3 also worked properly during a recent blat on a sports bike. As the lid is in the full force of the airflow the sound and buffeting is as I imagined it should have been.
Get on the bimmer though, and the buffeting begins.
Anyone want a used c3 and givi screen, as I'm going back to a nolan flip and original screen

If you invest £12 you'll be able to advertise both items. Given that they are both apparently fairly new and (assumed) to be in perfect condition you should be able to sell them quite quickly. Don't forget to take a picture, bods love pictures.

I very briefly owned a Nolan Flip Front, finding it quite the worse helmet ever. I sold it very quickly to a Subscribed Tosser here on UKGSer who still (as far as I know) still owns it. One man's meat, is another man's cat, as they say.... Probably in Shanghai.

+1 on Vwipe or the wipe on the back of most gloves.

Visor sprays work for me.

Height of rider can be meaningless for these comparisons as you are sat down leg/body length can vary greatly.

I was unhappy with my Nippy Normans tall screen but sorted it by moving the seat to the higher setting.

Trial and error sometimes gives us our best answers.

Still miss the power screen of the RT though

I'm with Wapping, get yourself a V wipe, best £6 (i think) ive spent for a while, ideal when its not raining but you get the spray kicked up from the wet road (after its rained)

My very best visor cleaners were a pair of winter gloves from Aldi. They are now worn out and nothing since has come close for comfort or screen cleaning ability.

Not bad for a pair of cheapo gloves only bought because I was broke at the time.

The AF 330 does reduce airflow (its meant to) just like the standard screens. But unlike the standard screen(s) the air flow is smooth. Both cause a down-draught and both will cause rain to run inside the visor if its left open.

Solutions when it rains -
Get a naked bike and develop scalenes like Arnie
Use the car
Stay at home.
