Some extra photos to add - especially of the epic off-road adventure day....
This is the trail that Tim hadn’t tried before.
As we got closer to the top, it was clear that the route wasn’t being used as it was still blocked by snow. The path forward wasn’t clear and so we decided to be sensible and turn around.
You can see Tim wondering what’s on the other side!
Quite challenging riding on the big bikes but great fun.
Little did we know there was more to come.

Later that afternoon, we headed out from the campsite for ride around the headland.
Anna and I were tailend charlie’s most of the time. We waited for a 4x4 to come through this narrow section, can you spot the others waiting for us in the distance?
We eventually catch them up.
Eventually the trail dropped down to the sea.
We then came to this narrow section...
...which was too deep to cross.
With the tide coming in, our route back was also underwater and no longer passable.
So we waited on the beach for the tide to go out and watched the sunset.

This is the same track at 2am one morning in 2018 - Tom & I decided we'd do the next day's route and go for a bimble to get a sunset shot..
All I got was a puncture and had helpfully left my tool kit at the campsite - Tom (the very same Smug from this dry week) was a hero - had everything about his person required.
Tubliss set up for good measure - what fun we had - but at least the tide was out and we could get home - 4am!

Once the tide had released us, Tim took us the short route back, over the mountain.
The final section had several small river crossings which were fun in the dark.
And that concluded one of the best day’s riding I’ve ever had.
[mention]Welshboxer [/mention] I would take a 640 on this trip yes. Less weight and extra suspension travel would be the main advantages over the GS. But the 640 was not an option this time with the Mrs on the back.

I think his Mrs deserves quite a bit of credit too! Denise and I have done some trail riding two up, but it was only one day rides, on easy lanes. It does make gates easier though.

The day dawns with a full wayfarer brekkie thankfully the last one for me in the lovley warm kitchen, Tim points to the trail we are riding today which is straight away and offers the big bikes an alternative route as its going to get interesting
Anyway Mark is never one to shy away from a challenge and I guess turning the pillion intercom to silent helped Anna's nerves

The trail was straight forward up to a small river crossing which was slimey with some nice big rocks in there and just do it was the war cry.

I will leave Mark to fill in the blanks when it comes to the trouble and strife that followed
All safely through the stream and we started to climb, it got rockier and eventually arriving at the top for a Timothy rolley we could see for miles but it was the downhill rocky trail that was to test any pillion.
This then open up to what was to be a *30 mile* of what can only be described as quick fireroad/sand/lava and rocks of course.
It's a very strange feeling doing up to 90mph with the front wheel slithering around but as that's what I like I was like a pig in shit sliding everywhere having a ball.
After arriving at the Geysir site having fuelled with lunch and and declined the offer of 80-100 degrees dip in the pool
we set off at a more moderate pace for another *30miles* over the top.
It's one of the most amazing trails you will ever see.

Finn got a bit confused ref. the first "wild camping" with toilets and running cold water night. That wasn't wayfarer meals it was the 24 hour delayed pasta bolognese. Four people with Anna in charge and co-ordinating various single burner stoves and tiny camp cooking pots cooking up 1Kg of dried pasta plus a huge amount of bolognese sauce. Nobody went hungry that night for sure.

Sorry, maybe I missed it, you shipped the bikes from where to where with WHO? ;-)
This is a trip I have on my list and shipping the bike sounds like a great idea. Though a few days on the ferry is also not an Issue for me.
How much was the shipping?
How long did it take?
Was there a lot of paperwork and hasstle at either end?
Could you ride and camp off road?
Heard they were strict on the offroading ?

So after the 30 miles we found some lovely tarmac for the ride into the Gullfossi water fall for refreshments shopping and general chill well it was quite frosty over by the 1200gs

The following day it was decided to take the twisty tarmac back to Reykjavik which proved to be popular as we started to recognise sights from out first day and then back to the post to deliver the bikes and change to some normal clothes.
I've chucked some pics up here should you wish to have a look through but as the average human will look for 4 seconds i guess the average tosser will be 1 so that will be 18.3 minutes of your life you will never get back
