Idle is too high

For some reason my bike (03 R1150 GS) has taken to running with a very high idle setting. It will start and run when cold at it's normal 1000-1200 RPM idle but I noticed when closing the throttle I wasn't getting a lot of engine braking while I was on the motorway and when I pulled in the clutch it took a while before it settled down to idle at about 2100 RPM. When I got to town 2100 was the lowest it would drop to which was interesting.
The throttle feels fine and is not sticking anywhere (it's hard against the stop when at idle) and it does not feel out of balance.
Only other problem is that the battery's dying (see other thread), would that affect the idle?
Any ideas?

I would suspect a vacuum leak of some kind.
Check the hoses/caps at the bottom of the throttle bodies.
Spray something flamable (WD40, carb cleaner, etc.) around intake and throttle bodies.
If idle changes, you found your leak.

Hmm, well, that didn't quite work out. Idle was fine when I left work but by the time I got to Sheen it was up to 2500 and by the motorway stuck at 4000. Got home and I can now feel there is a problem with the throttle cable so that's going to have to come off over the weekend and get replaced.
Now, I can feel two holes in the throttle assembley at the grip but there is only one cable coming out. Should there be a second (one for close, one for open) or just the one?
Also, how bad a job is replacing the cable?

Try an injection cleaner .One can every fill up.Try it for two or three times and yer idle'll be just fine.Did you use any high octane gasoline? The local dealer told that if you use this fuel something goes wrong with the lamda sensor... :eek I've had the same problem and by using the cleaner everything runs fine. :clap

I use injector cleaner about once evrey three months and rarely use the 'high octane' stuff.

The problem was somewhere in the cables. I managed to pull them all out and oil them and now it's working a treat. I've also fixed my 'high idle' switch now so that it does really high idle and not just add a couple of hundred revs.

It took me about 6 hours all in (with many stops for tea and hand warming), I probably spent about an hour trying to get the first cable back into the throttle body but once I got the knack it only took a couple of minutes. Just as well really because I initially got the routing of the cable wrong and could not get the left throttle to adjust to idle.

Interestingly enough I also discovered that the battery in there is not the battery that was in there before. I suspect that it's been replaced a second time without anyone telling me as the date on it is 01/2005.
