Righty ho , believe it or not I took my GS and did a trackday at Anglesey on Saturday, it performed perfectly well and I didn't disgrace myself too much and not everything over took me, ( well I don’t think so ) but before the last session of the day I put some fuel in just before going out and the ignition came on and thumbed the starter and just a clunk and the lcd display went blank, Turning it off and on again and the display would not come back on, but if I waited with the ignition in the off position it would come back on again, but when the starter was pressed the same clunk of the started solenoid again so that was my day finished, so later we tried to bump start it when the ignition came back and it ran fine without any issues and the display showed what it should, turn it off and the same result with the display not sure it wanted to work and when it did clunk again, I don’t think it’s a battery failure as it sits on an Optimate in my garage when it’s not being used, I will nick the battery from my mates TL to try it but it was not struggling during the day? Anyone with any thoughts before I try to get it to
Bahnstormer in Bracknell,

soumds like a knackered battery, mine did the same immediately after a 25mile ride into work, popped in to buy a paper & was flat as a fart when i tried to start it-no battery & end of problem

Battery

With the whole computer system now, there is either enough power to power the computers or there is not. It will either work or not work. When you switch the system on, there is enough juice to power up the computers.

Pressing the starter button clicks in the solenoid and it takes the battery voltage down below the point the computers work and they just shut down.

Either the battery is goosed, or it's got a poor connection. The battery can go all but open circuit internaly, just enough to put dash lights on but no way could run the starter. :comfort

Well I swapped the battery last night from a TL and it fired up fine, I have left it out of the bike and sat on the Optimate to see if it will rescue it but not sure how much good it will do as it has been on it since I got the bike, we'll see at the weekend i guess,

Ah good old TL batteries. My original Suzuki one lasted 9 years and 50,000 miles

Do a search on knackered battery and see how many are complaining because they use an Optimate, Its a good majority of them. I don't know if this is just because they are complaining because they thought they would be OK or if there is something about these charges actually doing more harm than good in the long term. I do know that for one reason or another my 09 on original battery hadn't been touched since Mid January. Sunday I went out and first push of the button it fired right up. Despite all the doom on here about how the bike drains the battery and the dealers saying the same, this isn't my experience, not over a 4 month time period anyway. Anyway to sum up I would have to question whether you actually need a battery maintenance charger in the first place never mind the fact that they seem to kill batteries more than anything else?
I am not suggesting there is a conspiracy or anything like that but based on my experience and what I have read, I wont be buying an Optimate or the like any time soon.
