Yeah - my 56 plate R1200R does it too.
You turn the key, and it seems to "wake up" in stages. First the parking lights come on, then the dashboard lights up, the clocks do their little dance, and it settles down and is ready.
If I'm in a hurry, and am holding down the starter button, there is a definite half a second or so delay between turning the key, and the starter firing.
When you turn the key to "on", it takes a half a second or so for the immobiliser to decide if everythings OK - and let you start it up.
Most modern cars do the same too - there is a short but perceptible delay before it bursts into life.
