I turned my imac on and the fan came on straight away and dosent go off?

turn off iMac, unplug it and hoover the vents. probably clogged .

Also check what programs are running, Utilities>Activity Monitor, fans may come on for processes/programs running continually over high percentages.

all vents seem clear nothing running over 2% not 5% running completely?

Try reseting the SMC or Pram

Every Mac has different methods and you need to ensure you used the method for an Intel based Imac. The correct instructions are in the iMac SMC and PRAM reset link. Do the SMC reset at least 2X!

Just found that while googling the problem.
It started up like it use to but the fan went from nothing to full in about 5 seconds.
When I turned it off it was back to starting up with the fan on full.
This is a cold machine that hasn't been on for 5 mins.
I think the temperature sensor is fecked
