Hey Thunder, what is the situation with the folks south of the border from you? Are the people in the Republic subject to the same rules as the rest of the UK? Or are they exempt?

The rules for importing items from outside the EU are the same for all members of the EU, so they would have to pay import duty at the same rate as we do, but VAT or the equivalent at their rate.
Of course that's if they did not have it shipped as a gift.
