Importing into Scenic…… How do you do it?

One thing though, how do you import a route into Scenic? It doesn’t seem to have capability to import a GPX file, rather the file must be shared/opened in Scenic from another app. I tried with MRA, but there was no option to open a GPX file In Scenic

That’s one frustration with Scenic. You do it from their web importer. https://scenicapp.space/webapp.php

From there you can import Supported Filetypes:

GPX: GPS exchange format
KML: Keyhole Markup Language (Google Earth, Google My Maps, et al.)
KMZ: Keyhole Markup Language Zipped (Google Earth, Google My Maps, et al.)
GDB: Garmin DataBase (Garmin Devices, Garmin Basecamp & Mapsource)
ITN: TomTom Itinerary (TomTom Rider)

Or you can paste in the URL from a Google maps browser session where you’ve created a route. If you create a route in Google Maps (web browser, not app), you’ll know you can add locations and also drag the blue line for the route with the little white dots. Once the route is as you like, copy the entire address bar from the browser. Paste it into the web importer. The locations will become Stops (must visit and will always be directed to them and won’t be auto-skipped) and the white dots are Vias (will try and guide you there but can auto skip if you have the option enabled)

There is another way to import.


In MRA save the file as a .gpx - it usually goes to the downloads folder.

If you put it in the cloud folder it can be picked up by the phone

Then go to the Files App and choose file.

Select the send option and it will come up with a load of places to send a copy of the file.

Select the Scenic icon

It then imports
The scenic app opens and then select Import

Ok, so download the GPX from MRA, then upload via the web impoerter?

Yes, if you don’t want to do the sharing thing you mentioned earlier.

Or, if you have MRA and Scenic installed on your phone/tablet, follow the screenshots I just posted as that’s the quickest method.

Note that there’s no PC version of Scenic, but if you have an M series Mac you can install Scenic on it

Do you know how to get it to use the offline maps

i have downloaded them to my phone but cannot find - how you actually use them

You don’t. If there are offline maps installed they will always be used over online maps, unlike MRA where you have to set the app to offline mode

I wouldn’t say that. I just find Scenic more feature rich and intuitive.

You could say the same about your love for MRA

It’s as I said this morning - everyone has their own idea of what’s right for them, and only the OP can make the decision as to which is best for them, but I advise to actually use both for a reasonable period of time rather than using them for one navigation session before they declare one of them crap.

I love MRA for planning, but find it very lacking as a navigator. Having over a year of experience of both, with and without CarPlay, I feel I’ve given them a fighting chance.

I’m not loyal to any app - I just use the tool that’s right for me. MRA just left me completely frustrated at times. Even a few months ago you couldn’t alter the zoom level in CarPlay.

In fact, as I type this my wife and I are coming to the end of a full day in MRA finessing our Spain and Portugal routes. Much easier than Scenic’s planner.
