According to the MOT testers guide indicators have to flash between 60-120 times per minute.

The indicators on the 1990 R100RS project I'm busy with flash too quickly, any ideas as to cause or cure?

those look like mini indicator pods you have on

Are the bulbs 10 w or 21w if they are 10's swop them to 21w (even to test) and all will be right! :D

I hope this helps

I fitted after market indicators to my bike (GSPD), these having the smaller glass bulbs which were 5w. The original indicators on the bike had the larger glass bulbs rated at 21w.

With the 5w bulbs the flash rate was too fast, as if a bulb was not working.

I could not find anywhere a 21w bulb with small glass. To prove this was the issue for me I fitted the 21w bulbs from the original indicators to the smaller indicators, these being too big to fit the lenses, but proved that this was the issue as the flashing rate was back to normal.

I did find some 23w bulbs, which are quite readly available, ebay etc.., which have the smaller glass bulb and for me worked, flashing at a rate which to me is normal.

You'd either need to change your flasher to a modern one capable of taking lower wattage lamps - or wire a resistor in-line with your new ones. Or as the last post said try to find some bigger wattage lamps.

Had the same thing with my old Daker. Get an electronic flasher relay (I think that's how they described it, but basically it flashes at the correct rate no matter what W bulb are installed) and it will solve the issue.

You're current flasher relay is expecting a higher draw, so it is flashing like it would if there was a bulb out.

It'll cost ya about £4 tops :thumb

I know this is an old topic but just wondered if having aftermarket indicators with 12v23w bulbs fitted would also make the indicators flash fast?

12v 23 w is a strange wattage

but the higher the wattage the lower the flash rate

If you fitted a 10W bulb in the holder instead of a 21w then you would get a very fast flash rate

Border raider what was the end result what bulbs were in the KTM holders

KTM indicators with correct bulbs fitted
correct for bike i.e. 2 x 21 w or correct for KTM ??
