Hi All,

The right hand side indicator on my '05 GS has packed up, has anyone else had this. If so was it an easy fix i.e. just a new little switch or was it a complete replacement of the instrument cluster?

Cheers
John

I had the same on my '06 gsa. decided to have a mind of it's own and would switch on randomly or not when i wanted it too. contacts inside were all gunked up.

Have you checked the bulb yet?
If that's ok (swap it on to the other side to see) then have you checked the bulb holder for intermittent 12v pulses yet?
If that's ok, clean all contacts, reinsert bulb, job done.....
If not, have you checked the terminals on the BACK of the bulb holder yet?
Follow it backwards in simple, easy steps........you seem to have jumped straight to the conclusion that it's the switch that's fubared, so unless you've done adequate checking on the whole circuit between there and the bulb, that's where to start.

If you have, ignore this, and someone who knows will be along shortly :)

Same thing happened to my '05 bike a few years ago. Had to ride all the way back from Bavaria with the bulbs out as, every so often, they would start on their own - and I didn't fancy T- boning anyone! Had to have the complete assembly replaced. Good luck.

Happened to mine - took the switch off and sprayed lots of wd40 inside, worked fine after that

My switch went, indicators wouldn't work and would then come on randomly whilst riding (dangerous and annoying for other road users). Fixed it by stripping and reassembling, making my own rubber boot. Second time it went it 12months later it couldn't be fixed so had to get a secondhand bar switch assembly (£75 I seem to remember). It's a shit design which doesn't lend itself to repair unlike traditional copper contact setup.

TBO I haven't checked the blub's yet as the problem started intermittanly i.e. they would come on then they wouldn't and have now stopped working all together; and what i have found to date with most of the switches that have gone on the bike they have needed full replacement. But what you and other suggest seems logical so will give it a bash and hopefully eak a bit more life out of it!

Cheers all

Well managed to get round to having a look, blub's all fine with current flowing to them etc. Exposed the switch to some WD40 love/cleaning to no avail so a replacement next week it is. Well its only taken 7 years to stop working - impressive by early GS standards me thinks :)
