Having searched the net for weeks now looking for the best price Aluminium Panniers, I accidently got put in touch with a guy who has made a set for me.

I say accidently because I was getting my crash bars powder coated in the industrial estate in Finglas where I work when I asked the guy if he did aluminium welding.
He said he didnt but sent me up to an industrial unit opp. the Brock Inn on the old N2 where after speaking to the guy in there, he agreed to make me up some panniers.
I gave him the dimensions and while he is a biker (races) he had no experience with this sort of thing.

I am delighted with the result but it is just bare boxes and lids. I bought the latches and he fitted them for me. I still have to put in a seal around the inside of the lid and sort out mounts to fit to frames which is another story I am working on, on the cheap.
I do intend to have the boxes powder coated and reckon they will come up fab.
While I have no affiliation to this guy, I would highly recommend him if you want to take the route that I am taking.
My main problem with buying from the UK or further a field was the addition of postage costs which killed the purchase as a result of the size of these things.

I was charged €85 per box and he is willing to make them for that price for any future business but remember it is the basic box with no fittings but I only paid €16 for the 4 latches.
He is on the old N2 opp the Brock Inn and he is a metal fabricator trading as William Mc Cann metal fabrication 0863853389 or 01 8344166

Having put draught excluder on the windows in the house recently, that is exactly what I intend to use as a seal.:thumb2

P.S. I don't think that they are rubbish. In fact far from it so wont bother me what others say.
Don't have to buy brand names all the time just to look good.

Well done for sharing, for the price they look pretty good.

Hopefully will look even better once powder coated.

This could be the start of something. I'm definitely going to give this some serious thought.

Saves alot of money and still they are decent boxes. Alot of running around and searching on the net for best options though. But all will be worth it in the end.:thumb2

I was out in yer man's place last week and the boxes were sitting there.
Had a good luck at them and they are well made with good quality welding:thumb2

Did those brackets that he made for you work out?? Thats some tank ye have for the R. There will be no stopping you in Scotland if ye get that fitted.

I ,for one, agree:thumb2

I think Bill McCann will be very busy for a while. JJH

TBH I hope it does generate some business for him cause he had a go at making these and they turned out well and himself and his son have no work to do due to the economic downturn and could do with some business coming their way.

Where is he based?

I need some changes to my pannier frames - one of the arms that connects to the bike no longer fits since I changed my exhaust :blast

He is just out past Kilshane cross on the old north road heading in the direction of Ashbourne. About 100 yards before the Brock Inn. (Brock is on right, he is in ind. Est. on left)

Your decking boards are upside down :blast

Nah, just needs oiling after the bad winter.:thumb2

Decking boards are supposed to be smooth side up

The grooves do 2 things when underneath

let the water drip off and stop them warping.

The way you've got them they just hold the water, causing rot and go green. :thumb2
