Having searched the net for weeks now looking for the best price Aluminium Panniers, I accidently got put in touch with a guy who has made a set for me.
I say accidently because I was getting my crash bars powder coated in the industrial estate in Finglas where I work when I asked the guy if he did aluminium welding.
He said he didnt but sent me up to an industrial unit opp. the Brock Inn on the old N2 where after speaking to the guy in there, he agreed to make me up some panniers.
I gave him the dimensions and while he is a biker (races) he had no experience with this sort of thing.
I am delighted with the result but it is just bare boxes and lids. I bought the latches and he fitted them for me. I still have to put in a seal around the inside of the lid and sort out mounts to fit to frames which is another story I am working on, on the cheap.
I do intend to have the boxes powder coated and reckon they will come up fab.
While I have no affiliation to this guy, I would highly recommend him if you want to take the route that I am taking.
My main problem with buying from the UK or further a field was the addition of postage costs which killed the purchase as a result of the size of these things.
I was charged €85 per box and he is willing to make them for that price for any future business but remember it is the basic box with no fittings but I only paid €16 for the 4 latches.
He is on the old N2 opp the Brock Inn and he is a metal fabricator trading as William Mc Cann metal fabrication 0863853389 or 01 8344166
