Went to leave work tonight to find someone has nicked the entire instrument cluster off my F800GS. Pissed off to say the least. It was in broad daylight and the Xena alarm must have gone off but no one reported it.

Has this happened to anyone else? I'm guessing it was nicked to order as they must have had the tools to hand - are the instruments that easy to remove?

The bike's still rideable - someone suggested that it may have been an attempt to disable the bike so they could nick it when it was quieter. Anyway got it home, but I wanted t know if it was legal to ride without the cluster.

The only thing I can think of is not having a speedo, but the Zumo can do that.

The dealer tells me a replacement has to come from Germany and takes 5-10 days - don't want to be off the road that long.

Dare I ask how much?

cnuts need horse whipping in public!

Bastards!

Unfortunately it's only three circlips, unplug the wiring loom and away you go. I'm not sure whether they're all compatible but maybe they're trying to reduce the mileage on another GS...

With regard to legality i think i remember reading somewhere that for an MoT the mileage must be visible but the rest was optional... worth checking with your local garage though i think you'd be very unlucky to get stopped in the next fortnight...

Fingers crossed the new arrives soon.

£600+vat fitted and coded

They are part of the problem! :thumby:

I had the front of a Citroen stripped years ago. The dealer struggled to hide his glee as he told me "a bit of string behind the headlight .. pull & you're in" before charging me full whack for the missing parts .. including headlight protectors that stop you getting in in the first place! :blast

If it needs to be re-coded is that a dealer only job?If it is I would ring every dealer for miles around to be on the look out for a scrote with a coding problem.

This happened a lot on the AX ,BX and ZX models, the headlamps were a push fit in sockets. Not possible on later models due to a change in design.

And why should the dealer charge you anything other than full whack? The lights were made by Valeo anyway so could have been purchased elsewhere for much less, if you choose to go to a dealer then expect to pay the top price.

Nicked clocks

Hi

Sadly I suffered the same fate in Dysart St just off Finsbury Square in the City of London yesterday. I lost the Instrument Cluster off of my R1200GS 2006. Same as you in broad daylight and under a security camera (getting a copy of the tape on Monday), hugely annoying. £650 for the part and 150 to fit by the dealer. Oddly enough I heard that a guy on a Triumph Tiger suffered the same fate two weeks earlier.

I believe that the Panel is tethered to your chassis number and that it needs to be programmed into the new unit. This means that whoever did this got a dud or is part of a sophisticated group of well connected scumbags!

I intend engraving my reg number on the face of the new one when I get it, that is unless someone else has a better idea.

FYI MotorWorks sells second hand units for £250.

Good luck!

That's just down the road from where mine was parked, in Shoreditch. Sounds like it's the same people. Let me know what you see on the CCTV.
