My Original Instrument Cluster has failed and I've had a new one fitted.
Sadly they were unable to transfer my original mileage to the new clocks and I now have a zero mileage clock.
I was obviously quiet proud of the 120+k the bike has accumulated.
Do any of the collective know how this can be restored?
The gargae has obviously tried what they could with the BMW diagnostic doohickey, I think the issue was sucking the old mileage out of the failed unit.

On another note; anybody want to buy an extremely low mileage 2006 Adventure?

Wouldn't the mileage be stored in the ECU?:nenau Did they give a reason why they couldn't update the clock?

Mileage is stored in the instruments, they are a separate computer connected via the CAN system.
A BMW dealer should be able to program them though although for obvious reasons it shouldn't be available outside a dealer. Not saying it isn't somewhere though. They shouldn't need access to the failed unit either other than for confirmation.

There are plenty of companies out there that can set your odometer to the correct mileage legally and and others that are not so legal as they clock them.
I would have thought that a main dealer would know as they can legally reset the odometer on a new car to zero if it's showing less than 200 miles.

Were your clear parts okay I am looking for a new casing as mine has succumbed to the dreaded UV cracking due to living outside for the previous owners time?

I recall refitting my instrument panel and forgetting to seat the wiring connector fully home, giving me no instruments. My GS911 reported some ridiculous odometer reading until I plugged the connector back in properly, which then gave working instruments and the correct mileage both on the cluster and via GS911.
I believe the ZFE and instruments are 'paired' electronically and share the mileage data.

Sorry mate, parts replaced as part of an insurance claim so I do not have the originals.

I would have thought this too. Even if they cannot access the original mileage on the old unit, I would have thought you could manually imput the mileage in to the new unit.

Anybody any experience of using the BMW dealer computer thingy?
I'd like to get a definitive answer I could take back to the dealer.:thumb
