Instrument Cluster Vibration

I've had my 2006 Adventure for a week now, and it's really growing on me. The one thing I can't get used to is the instrument cluster vibration and resonance at low revs. Do all the 1200's suffer from it ? And are there any fixes ??

Try changing the rubber grommit underneath the light housing that the intruments sit on. Over time that grommit has a centre hole that gets larger, and the whole unit moves, also making the lights bounce and vibrate at night.

The grommit is quite expensive so you may want to plan your expenditure.(about £0.40 + vat) If you can,t aford the grommit put a couple of turns around the steel finger on the mounting frame that goes into said grommit.

To get to the grommit undo the two screws that hold the light unit and then lift the light unit upwards and off the finger.

They all do that sir, Mines done it from new, a 'characteristic' of a Boxer twin, just use it as a reminder that youre in the wrong gear???

My '06 GS doesn't suffer unless I change up too early, you haven't come from a Jap in-line 4 have you? if they (the clocks) don't vibrate just above idle it may well be riding stlye, mine was

No eight years on an 1100GS....and what a bike it was ! Still not convinced I've done the right thing buying the 1200 !

It's not my riding style, the cluster vibrates up and down the gears. I'll try the new grommet idea.

Well, even the great Wapping can`t find a serious solution for such a dull (or should that be bright?) observation.

I would suggest Oakleys, a dark visor or a cloudy day. Is that more helpful

You will get a slight vibration but it should be slight. It would be worth just checking all the mounting bolts

Sunlight is as old as time itself and has always been a problem.

The ancient Egyptians (who knew all about the sun, worshipping it as a god) had to go to great lengths to stop the sun coming over their shoulder, by dressing in an extended headdress. Maybe there lies a part of the answer?

If not, I have been thinking outside of the box.

I think something like this should do the trick. Obviously, it may need a bit of adaption as the tripod legs would get in the way.

In the lower picture you can see roughly where the handlebars would be, with the chap reaching forward to operate the clutch.
