Hi guys, I'm off to the States for three weeks in September, freighting my bike over. Does anyone know what type of bike insurance I'll need and any suggestions where I can get it nice and cheap:) any advice or tips would be gratefully accepted too. Cheers in advance:thumb2

You will need full motorbike insurance for the US. I always use www.motorcycleexpress.com who offer great cover. They aren't cheap though but you get what you pay for:thumb

Make sure you have good personal insurance as well which covers bikes over 125cc and repatriation.

edit* I just looked at your other thread and $360 is not bad. Remember the US is very litigious so it's not cheap and you have to have it. I know one or two have chanced it but it's not worth it. Where are you off to?

Cheers Sgt Bilco, Its just cos the quote is more than my annual premium over here-call me tight but it irks! Land in New York, meander North & West to San Francisco and back to New York a bit further south, kinda playin it by ear, sooooo many places to see and 3 weeks just isn't enough! Thanks for confirming I'm a tight arse and I'd better put up!

Roynie and I have also toured many thousands of miles in the US using Motorcycle Express. Don't be tempted to skimp on levels of cover. Chances are, if you're hit, you'll be hit by an uninsured driver. ALWAYS take maximum cover. We've had to claim in the past and been thankful for it. The only other option is to buy a bike while you're out there and insure locally. (You're UK licence will cover you, you just need a friend to lend an address for the 'Title'.) We have friends who have successfully negotiated buy back deals for a month or two's holiday or even shipped their bike home.

If you are intending to go from NYC to san Francisco and back in 3 weeks, be prepared for some massive days. That would be between 10 and 12,000 miles:eek:

You need to have a relook at your route and enjoy your ride and not tear the arse out of your trip :thumb
